Hi Karen, I started MTX 4 weeks ago and I was fearing the worst. So far the problems have been few, mainly just bloatedness (which goes) but it's early days. I have had 2 bouts of feeling a little sick but they passed quickly and it might not even be related to MTX. Good luck, hope all continues to go fine and keep us posted. xx

Hi Karen, I started mtx 3 months ago, the nurse increased mine to 20mg as the lower dose wasn't working, still waiting for these to work just a little better but have only been on the 20mg 2 weeks. Good luck

Hi Karen

I've enjoyed a glass or 2 of red wine most nights in the 2 yrs I've been on mtx - my Rheumy is well aware of this and, as my liver function is coming back fine and is monitored monthly via my bloods she see's no reason to stop. You all may be interested in the article below that has found a positive link between red wine and RA!!

http://www.metro.co.uk/news/836337-good-news-alcohol-can-lessen-severity-of-arthritis

Obviously you need to speak to your own Rheumy about this as I appreciate we are all different and I am not medically qualified to tell you what you can and can't do...........

Cheers!!

I've taken 2 doses of MTX so far (10mg) and not had any particular problems, apart from a rash last fri which cleared, also had a nose bleed monday morning, bit weird but it cleared up as well.

My knee has swollen AGAIN after my steroid injection (5th this year), the rheumys are baffled so have been put on 20mg of Prednisolone for 4 weeks, anyone been on this?

Hi everyone

Well Ive decided to just have the odd beer in the week, at the weekend, if I want to share a bottle of wine then I will, as Im having fortnightly bloods, Ill see if I need to stop!

Tom, glad to hear you havent been getting any serious side effects with the mtx, hope you get your knee sorted soon.

Im lucky as Ive felt good for a few weeks now, even declined my steroid jab as felt I didnt need it, although my fingers have really been hurting the last couple of days, doesnt help I wake up & they are bent & I have to straighten them, seeing consultant weds so will mention then!

Hi

Ive been on methotrexate 20mg a week plus 4 sulphasalazine a day every day for about 10 months now and it really is worth hanging in there as it does take a little while to get used to them but definitely bear with it as it makes a massive difference especially is you take sulphasalazine aswell like I do. I also take folic acid 6 days a week 5mg as apparently this reduces the side effects of methotrexate. I also take amitriptyline (daily) and Tramadol.

HI, just an update

I'm upto 15mg of MTX now and also top dose of 50mg of Prednisolone due to fact that knee only just responding but not enough for rheumy to be happy, damn knee. Little bit sicky day after taking MTX but not too bad. Onwards and Upwards!

Hi Karen
Thought I'd let you know that I polished off 2 bottles of cava with a friend last night!! I have an elephant on my head and a camel has pooed in my mouth but boy I feel good for saying 'sod it' and having a bit of a life for a change!! Getting my bloods done regularly and liver etc is healthy!!

When I told my Rheumy I haven't stopped drinking, just moderated it a bit she laughed and said one of the only up sides of RA etc is you know you won't die of sclerosis of the liver as, unlike others we have our bloods checked all the time!!!

Chin, Chin!!
