Subject: Stopping MTX ?

Im on 20mg mtx injections which arnt particualy helping, nor are they making me feel fantastic ether (hair thinnin slightly, spots and sickness).
On a recent rummy appointment he has decided that ive got mild RA but he still wont give me a diagnosis. He has however given me a diagnosis of fibromyalgia which is causing my constant pain. He wants me to continue with the mtx even tho its doing nothing but make me feel rubbish!
How do i go about comming off it? Thanks

I just stopped it because I got ill but my arthritis is getting worse. How about getting a second opinion before you stop? If you stop for a while and then start up you won't be covered for that period. I think mild RA might count as a diagnosis :)- or do you mean that he won't put that on your records?

Hi Kirstine, inflammatory arthritis is still a diagnosis, even if they don't know which type. It can take time for a distinct one to emerge. Some people who are sero -ve go on to develop the rheumatoid factor, for example. Sometimes they just can't tell. I've got the same thing and it doesn't bother me any more at all as my diagnosis is Sero Negative Inflammatory Arthritis!!

I'm sorry, must have misunderstood. In that case I don't understand why they are not saying you have RA - though the treatment is similar. I agree it is easier to have a definite diagnosis - helps you come to terms with things. I take sero-ve as a diagnosis but my GP asked me recently whether they knew which type of arthritis they thought I had. Doesn't bother me at the moment that I don't know.
take care.x
