Yes, they keep you out of trouble! I have been reliant on them for the past year and would not be walking without them. I haven't gained a huge amount of weight - did a bit last year but have lost it and put quite a bit of overeating down to my mother's death in any case, no moon face, facial hair can be got rid of easily with cream from S----drug. All these can be reversed in any case and 5mg is a low dose. I don't know about you but I don't have any choice as to whether to take them or not, I can't manage without them.

Hi.Had RA for 11 years. I take 10mg a day plus azathiaprin, before taking prednisolone my CRP was 48 its now 3. I've had no side affect up to now and can walk again and have very little pain if I take it easy. Been on them about 2 months and feel great. 5mg is a very low dose and you can always stop taking them if you have problem. Good luck Dell

I've been on prednisone for at least 6 years. Currently reducing my daily dose from 4mg to 3mg. I have been on 10mg in the past though. I'm 5'3" and my weight is 9st 10lb which isn't too bad! It's a wonder drug for me!! The only drug that has virtually instant results. Ok there are long term side effects but who cares when it gets rid of your pain!! And I live quite a normal life!! Go for it!!

just a friendly warning, dont just stop taking the steroids, if you don't like their effects, it can be very dangerious to do so, and you can become very ill.

Hi Katknapp! Please don't worry about the pred it's a very low dose. In 2007 I was put on 80mg for 1yr then spent a year coming off. Yes I put on weight and had Moon face but this soon reversed when I stopped. They saved my life. This past year I have been on 30mg for for the Arthritis and Only put on a tiny bit of weight with very slight Moon face but again this was soon reversed and I can't see 5mg being a problem. As regards the Amoxicillin my GP just put me on my 3rd week of 500mg and He also put me on 50mg of pred for 5days last week so yes this is fine! When I was on the 80mg of pred I was in hosp and also on large amount of intravenous anti biotics. Steroids will really help your Arthur so it is advisable to take them. You'll soon realise being pain free way out ways how you look. Do take care and let us know how you go X

Hi Kat, just found out that a combination steroids and antibiotics can sometimes give you thrush - I've got oral and the normal one. However, I have to say that I was on four antibiotics over two weeks and 30mg doses of steroids which is quite a lot of both! Just watch out for it and get C***stan from your gp if any signs.
