Subject: CIMZIA

Hi all,

I started on the drug Cimzia (anti-tnf) yesterday and so far its been really good (still early days).

Its 2 injections every 2 weeks for 6 weeks and then 1 injection every 2 weeks for ever.

The injections are very easy to administer too.

I was told there are 4 of us on it at St Thomas's and Guys and so far they have seen good results from the other 3 people.

Good test will be a 7 hour drive to Germany tonight to see the outlaws before my wife becomes to big to travel (baby). ;-)

I'll keep you posted on how i get on with this drug as it's quite new.

regards

Paul

Hi Jill,

Hope you are well,

I was told it was less potent than the other anti-tnf treatments and acts against the TNF cells better than other anti-tnf's.

Here is a small sentence from a website i looked at before going on this drug:

Cimzia is the only drug in the TNF class that touts being less poisonous to cells because of its chemical properties (e.g., PEGylated, Fc region free). In addition, compared to other TNF blockers, Cimzia reportedly has a higher affinity for human TNF.

I just hope it works in the long run, so far i'm a happy lad.

Baby is doing fine and we've just reached the 6 month :-)

regards

Paul

Hi paul

i have been on CIMZIA for a few months now, was one of the first to go on it and i can honestly say i feel really great for it.

After my 3rd dose of the CIMZIA i went and had my bloods done and my ESR levels were 5, myself and the consultant were totally shocked as i havent had a low ESR reading in nearly 3 years.

I was and still am totally amazed at how quick this drug has took effect and like you paul i don't feel like i have RA at all, it's sooooo good to feel normal again and i am totally looking forward to a pain free birthday next week :D

Glad its working for you too. Amelia x

I just found out that in Germany the drug cost 1600 euros for each injection.. i'm so lucky to be on it.

Have a great birthday next week :-)

Thank you i am soo glad i will feel 27 next week and not 97 LOL :)

yeah it is a very costly drug but i was told the manufactures of this drug are sooo confident that it will work in RA patients that they are funding the drug for a year themselfs so hosp and NHS won't have to pay nothing. I think thats why my specialist nurse was so eager for me to go on it!!!!

Brenda, each to their own....drinking cherrie juice wont cure R.A.... mb u dont have such bad issues at the mo, I hope not, but if u have been offered an ANTI TNF u must be in a bad way....so I hope u mke the right choice for U, becos if U dont, then the damage is Irrepairable, I know! tc Jill

Jill,

I was really bad where I could not walk, my shoulder hands, and elbow was so bad i could not move them as for my hand and fingers, i was in so much pain, .. took pain meds, finally I took all those other drugs, and they cure it, and they did not work.. so I went on a special diet, margaret Hills diet and , I am glad, coz i have results, no swelling, i am walking and my arm is moving, i am not in pain where i need pain meds.. and had my bloods, my esa is going down from 70 to 15.. So my GP is amaze, and said this diet is working.. as for damage joints i have them when i was on the meds.. both my feet and ankles are damage.. that was from me being on meds.. like i said they did not work.. and i choose a diet that IS HEALTHY.. as for those meds, i know of some one who diet form the them , who has RA.. so i rather have a life then to be 6 feet under..

Well i am back a total of 11 hours of travelling and my right hip has gone.. too much stop and go traffic and having to use the right leg too much.

I have tried lots of different diets for RA and found none of them worked for me, but there are so many types of arthritis it may be that yours was helped by a certain diet where others are not.

When did your dad start taking this drug as it was not that long ago that it was introduced to RA patients?

Paul,

We both have RA, .. My dad had it for about 5 years now.. he was on his 5 dose of this drug.. and feel out of bed, brought in hospital, and found out his bone marrow is not right, so he had to have blood transfusions, this was about a month.. so please watch it. The diet I am on is so strict.. but the Margaret Hills diet is working takes about 6 months before you notice it.. on some people.. I do have my bloods done to make sure things are ok, and i do see the specialist, also.. I am being careful..
