hi thanks for reply, it started 6 months ago in his knee, then ankle few months later, big toe soon after, and last month shoulder now this week the bottom of his back, then to top it off he keeps having fevers, they dont last long but generally in the evenings, so getting progressively worse, the pain is worse in the mornings, he is very stiff and limps,he looks like an old man when he tries to get up from the sofa after resting, brufen not touching the pain now, trying hot baths but with little effect. his mood has changed, usually an active jovial boy, but subdued and abstaining from sports. i am very worried, its awful seeing your child in pain and feeling totally useless, and guilty as i feel i should have taken him to the gp sooner but thought it was growing pains, what a rubbish mum.
i hope we get some answers soon and some painkillers that are effective.
x

Please don't think your a rubbish Mum! The fact that you are here asking questions that might benefit him shows you care! Obviously we're not qualified to diagnose here but in some respects it sounds like Juv RA but in others it doesn't. My friends 5yr old has Juv RA and she sure has constant problems with her temp. I think maybe you should contact the GP to get him/her to hurry along consultants apt and to prescribe something more effective than ibuprofen. Might be a bit tricky though as He is Only twelve but alot of meds are for 12yrs +. Also I would apply heat to affected joints and not have him stay in one position Ie on the sofa, for very long at one time as you previously mentioned even though it hurts as it will benefit him in the long run. Good luck with your journey! Go well! And keep us posted. X

Try having a bath in epson salts for 20 mins, used about a cup full of epson salt, its does take pain away quickly, and so it works on stiffness, then frozen peas work great, 10 mins on with a thin towel, 15 off.. the doctor told me this and works great..

good luck !!! also call is gp , and you need to explain the pain, he can give him something till he see the specialist.

sorry to hear that Clare, the only consolation is that you now know what is wrong and your son can get on the correct treatment, i wish you and your son all the best and please keep us informed how you get on and which treatment he has been given.

regards

Paul
