kazzie I've not experienced your particular problem but I do have Diabetes as well and that can cause cyctitis / thrush as well. Also my daughter suffered terribly with it although she has no other medical problems. She had all sort of tests / scans doen and the only conclusion they could come to was an irritable bladder !!

Sounds rotten Kaz. Have you tried all the old fashioned remedies like drinking lemon barley water, etc. etc? It probably is a low immune system but that's not much comfort.
take care

Just had a thought girls. If you keep getting water infections and the anti biotics don't clear the infection then request that they test for the specific bacteria that is present in the sample. As it will never clear up until they use the right anti biotic for the bacteria !! This goes for chest infections as well. My daughter works in a bio lab and she says that it's very frustrating when GP's/hospital just dole out generic anti biotics when all it takes is just one test to see which bacteria is present. Also it's less stressful for the patient as well not having to go through a whole load of useless medications.

Hi Kazzie,

Not too sure you are taking mtx at what dose? As a matter of fact, high-dose of mtx commonly results in renal side effects and cystitis is one of them. It is due to after these dose, the concentration of a major circulating of its metabolite can precipitate in renal tubule.

Hence you may want to discontinue mtx and change to a different one, because anyways mtx is never advised to used long term.

Hope that helps

It finally went when they did more specific testing and found it was e.coli. Gave me super duper anti biotics. You have to be careful they DON'T contain sulphur as this reacts badly to mtx.

Good point Abbie - they really have to test for which actual bacteria is present and about mixing the meds. It's amazing how many doctors don't even think of this. My Reumie gave me a steroid injection a few months ago and it sent my blood sugar sky high [ I'm Diabetic ] so the new Rheumie yeaterday said it was " inappropiate " for me to have any Steroid meds !!

I should imagine that they would pick up a bacteria in a water sample ? But they have to test for that specific bacteria. Don't be scared kazzie about these tests if you ask for a female to do it they will usually do that , and if you feel scared just tell them and they will try to put you at ease. It's not nice but they are doing it to try to make you better [[[[[ hugs ]]]]]

Hi there my specific testing was in the urine. Ah hun don't worry about the cameras, easier said than done though eh? I have to have them both ends regularly. If down throat, opt for sedation. It always totally knocks me out and I don't know a thing. With the posteria, to be polite, they automatically sedate you and your so off your face that nothing fazes you. The Only time I feel anything is on a major bend and it's just like a little bit of pressure. You'll be fine honey. Go well XXX

Same here Abbie. I didn't have the sedation with the throat camera but if I had to have one again I'd deffo go for the sedation. And I've had the camera the other end as well !! can't remember being offered sedation for that one though ? Wasn't that bad anyway the worst part [ for me ] was the stuff they gave me to take the night before [ Picalux ] I think ? which makes you go to the loo - a lot!!.

kazzie end result for the camera down the throat , for me , was - nothing to be seen by the nurse BUT she told me to ask mt GP to be referred for a scan for Gall Stones. And that was what was up with me. They are mainly looking for stomach ulcers I think ?

And the other end test shown nothing again BUT i did have a prolasped bowel which I just had an injection for. I've suffered with hemarroids since the birth of my 1st baby but I've had injections for those as well so I'm a lot older now and had no problems since the course of injections.

Kazzie, you are not alone. I understand how you are feeling and the fact that you are having so much happening with no answers makes you feel fed up with it all and no wonder you are scared. But try not to be scared. Ask for the sedation, it really makes a difference and you wont know a thing about it. Please, please tell your nurses and doctors you are feeling really anxious and scared. They will really try to put you at ease and do the best for you. I have had the camera down my throat and up the other end over 50 times now and can honestly say I have not had one bad experience with it. You either feel really calm and out of it or you sleep and you wont remember a thing. I have been on MTX now for four years and havent had any side effects other than the awful nausea each week and feeling really fatigued. My rheumy says its helping keep the RA in check and I just have to put up with the side effects. No biggies though. I also have Humira injections and prednisone. I have been on prednisone for over 30 years now and am still hanging in there. I guess its always different for everyone but if you have no joy with results this time ask your doctor to refer you to someone else who will look for the correct bacteria causing allthis worry for you. Hope this helps and you are feeling better really soon. Sending Hugs to you from the other side of the World.

I have GORD (general oesophagus reflux disease) and severe heart burn. Have 60mg of Lansoprazole at night and sometimes 30mg in the morning and 20mg Domperidone x4 daily. These keep my symptoms almost totally at bay. I'm also constantly having polips removed from my bowels because they cause alot of bleeding. This is done with camera guidance. Hope this has helped X
