Subject: Cyprus Sunshine.

Hello Folks,

I've lived in Cyprus for 22 year now and until the onset of Psoriatic Arthritis early last year I was working here full time as a self emplyoyed mechanic/electrician.

This morning I met with my Cypriot Rheumatologist. This lady divides her time working for both the UK Health Service and the Cyprus Health Service.

I've noticed that more people in the UK suffer from Rheumatoid Arthritis than Psoriatic Arthritis.

It seems to be generally assumed that sunshine helps PA sufferers. However today she told me that PA is far more prevalent than RA in Cyprus and that the vast majority of her patients here are under the age of 16.

Personally I try to avoid the sun as far as possible because my psoriasis is actually worse in the summer months. I've read a few posts on here where people have been abroad for a fortnight and the sun has done their skin some good.

Maybe, like most things, its a case of everything in moderation. I thought it was interesting and worth a mention on the forum.

Regards to All,

Connor.

Hi Connor, that is interesting. People say to me they think I will be better in good weather but they forget I first got ill in the summer! I haven't noticed it makes a huge amount of difference - in fact, I seem to be worse in good weather and think is because doing more.

Hi Connor I have PA. I've never heard that the sun helps PA just the psoriasis itself. . . Interesting. To be fair, the sun has never helped my psoriasis and I find my PA is just as bad in the summer as in the winter. I think like most things, everyone is different eh? Anyway, take care and I hope things go ok for you! X

Hello Jill,

My wife is fine thanks and putting up with me.

If you remember I tried copper bracelets a few months back, try anything if it helps. Well, she found 'em sexy, whatever turns you on dear, but I had to give 'em up...Could'nt stand the pace...! ( And I should be so lucky ! )

Definitely something odd about her though 'cos she thinks men wearing thigh length waders are sexy.
I'm gonna bounce into the kitchen one day wearing only copper bracelets and a pair of waders...If you don't hear from me again then you know what happened..!

Hi Sally,
If I get overheated for some reason, you know umcomfortably hot, then its a nigh on dead cert that within 24 hours I'll have a psoriasis flare up.

Abbie,
As you say we are all different. Some people here reckon the heat does their arthritis good whilst others say it aggravates the symptoms.
