Subject: Gutted

So far ive had pain and very slight swellin in my hands wrists, elbows and shoulders. Ive woken up thismorning feeling reasonably well so i decided to do some dishes, now half an hour later my hands are looking like ive put gloves on in comparison to how they normally look and they are red and extreamly hot. I just needed to moan about it :)
is there anything anyone can suggest that may reduce even some of the puffyness???

When my hands are more painful than usual I change from hot to cold.I run cold water over them and then heat them up quick in front of a blower or sommet. Soothes them a little.

Hope youre ok xx

Thank you for getting back to me, im finding this forum to be excellent so far as im realising im not alone, and certainly makes up for the lack of professional care and support ive had.

My hotness is now in my hands, elbows knees and feet!!! I cant get over how fast its spreadding... Just hope the mtx works and saves my joints as so far they are un damaged. (something is telling me that it will all b too late tho). X

Hey Kirstine, hang on in there. Unfortunately to a certain extent youve just gotta go with it. Try not to stress ya joints too much, especially when theyre flared. How long have you been having flare ups etc? And how old are ya? (sorry if youve already said, I have a memory like a sieve!)

Take care hun xx

Ive been having flare ups for about 5 months now but only about a month ago went to he docs and asked for specific blood tests as i had a positive RF when i was 17 but according to the rummy i saw back then it wasnt high enough for consern and it just ment i may get arthritis at some point. So here i am with RA aged 23. It started off as general wakness in my hands and arms but its progressing mega fast and seems to be almost everywhere now. I took my 2nd dose of MTX yesterday and have been on neproxin since i went to the docs and requested bloods. ( they were putting the pains i was getting down to hormones as i had a baby 5 months ago) x

Yeah ive got a fab partner who helps loads with the kids (ive got an allmost 2 year old aswell lol).
He has been fantastic so far and the only thing which he jokes about anoying him is my tempreture, he says its very like sleeping next to a fire!
He is supposed to be going back to work next month but is starting to think he shouldnt as some days i cant even pull the tabs on my sons nappy to change him. So he is very apprehensive about leaving me. Im in 2 minds tho as part of me thinks if he goes backand isnt around then i will be kind of forced to find ways to cope.
Do you have anyone supporting you? And how do you manage? Are you working?

I have my boyfriend who does pretty much everything. I work full time on a comp and it totally knackers me out so he only works a few hours a week and looks after the house for the rest. Have you thought about carers allowance? Big step I know but its worth thinking about? Also, do ya claim DLA? I put it off for years and to be honest, I really dont know how I coped. Takes such a bit weight off your mind. Plus I traded my mobility for a new car. I can actually drive without being in agony. My last one was a low little thing with no power steering. It was HORRIBLE! Seriously though if ya dont claim, look into it on the government website. Its really worth it.

Im still not sure what my partner should do about work tho as i dont want to get years down the line and him wish he had worked instead of help me! X

best thing is to properly discuss it. We were gonna do it but my bf did too much overtime the few months beofre so they wouldn't give it to us. I know what ya mean though. Its a big step mentally and emotionally. Another thing is the blue parkin badge. I find it invaluable. Im 24, so i get funny looks when i park in the disabled places but then i get guilty looks when they see me struggle to get out the car lol

Hi Verity, hope ya ok,regards the carers allowance, if ya partner stayed home full time, and u work full time, how much allowance will he be allowed, my fella is thinking of doing that too, altho at the mo he works just part time, becos of me!! im not working, cant, cos im unreliable, etc, also im not as celva as u lol u have a gr8 job.....do u know approx how much he wld get, my fella is a Carer but gets just the 350.00 per year!...also if my fella gave up work, we wld have to go on all the benefits, i.e. housing etc....we might have to do this tho, cos now i need the gall bladder and spine op, also know other things will start happeneing again On top of all the recovery!...what ya think? xx

Hey Jill, Im not 100% on this but i think it was 40-50 quid a week. I think Toms limit was 15 hours a week for working. The carers benefit, I think, does affect council tax benefit and dole too (again not 100% sure).

Trust me Jill, you dont have to be clever to do my job lol. How are ya feeling? We should do bets on the next problem you'll have to face lol No seriously though, you need to stay positive OK? You're gonna feel so much better after the op and then when you have your back done you'll be laughin! You'll have double positive thoughts coz Im sending mine too : )

Hang on in there : )
All my love xx
