I didn't when i had either of mine done. Altough the pa hadn't begun to affect my upper body so I was able to lift myself up to use the pan. Very weird trying to deal with all that when the epidural means you can't feel your bladder. The things we have to deal with eh? Also, I was a bit squeamish about having the epiural so they very kindly put that in after i went to sleep - I had a lovely anesthetist!

I had a catheter for my revision but that was because I had a epidural catheter in for several days and was in HDU. For the other 2 hips there was no catheter - depending on what pain relief you can have, (I couldn't have any) it does hurt trying to go on the bed-pan and its just not normal "going" in bed!!! Good luck with the ops.
