Subject: Intro to me & my difficulties

Hi i'm 33 live in England and have PA. Had it for some years but was officially diagnosed Aug 09. On mtx, depot steroid injections, pred & Co-Dydramol & Tramadol for pain. On 15mg mtx but take 1/2 weds & 1/2 sun coz when took all weds was everso ill. On Thurs going onto shots but everso nervous about side effects. Anyone find it better? Or even just ok? Had repeated sores in mouth since mtx got them now and turned black. Already increased folic acid to 5mg daily but still they come. Any tips? Also get repeated wee infections. Is this normal with mtx or pred? Sorry to moan on but one last thing, try hardest not to take pain relief till afternoon. On average take Co- Dydramol x2 in a day and Tramadol 1 in a day. Notice last couple of months If go say more than 24hrs without these I get very antsy, stressed and can't sleep or think straight. Bit worried am hooked. Seeing Dr tom about these probs but very nervous and what with all this & the pain am feeling really fed up! Sorry again to moan on. Go well Abbie

Big Welcome Abbie, u have come to the right place, we r a great bunch here, been here over a year now, dont know what i wld have done without this amazing supportive forum..... Ok sorry to hear about ya condition, with MTX it affects pplm in different ways, I get Absesses due to MTX, so fat had 5 teeth removed lollol...I do get cold sores, but tht is becos i feel a bit low at this mo.... I think the MTX is prob the cause of the mouth sores(ask GP) I personally Abbie wld take ya meds in morn., keep topped up, if u find they run out by a certain time, tell the GP, they can give u slow release type meds, altho they maybe the Opiates type...Im on them, but they are far better than most meds ive tried, by the way Abbie, I use to take 8 Tramodoal a day, so one is very low, im now on Zomorph, works for me...have u tried the patches? calles Trastec patches...work better than Tramodol, regards the stress u feel after say not being on ya meds for 24hrs, I do think its the withdrawal u feel, dont let that word Painic u, its Normal, your body had gotten use to the painkiller, I get like that, I get withdrawal, sweats, shaky, so I know I have to take them....also with the pain Arthritis causes(all types) does it matter if our bodies get hooked, becos to be honest, its a painful disease, and we do(mostly) need decent painkillers...dont know a person yet that isnt on a strong painkiller.... so please dont feel bad about breing 'hooked' as u say...also the MTX is the one that is helping your body NOT get the damage the disease causes, so remember U R entitled to0 have those meds....also remember U r entitled to feel fed up, come back and have a larf, moan, whinge, about anything that gets to u, family, m8s that dont understand, anything and everything, U will get a reply, we r a great bunch in here, and we do get to know peoples personailities too....what a giggle that is.....let us know how u get on with ya Doc, im seeing mine today....so good luck and tc Abbie....chat soon Jill x

Thanks everso much for the welcome and words of support. I went to the dr's today and it went alot better than I thought it would. I was in there for half hour and she was lovely. My wee infection that I've had 3 courses of anti biotics for turns out to be e coli so I've gotta wait to hear from the consultant micro biologist as to what happens next. The mouth sores are mtx related so I've got some gel mouth wash and waiting to hear from Rheumy as to increase folic acid or what to do. Told dr about prob with pain killers and that I try not to take more than 3 doses (6 pills) of Co Dydramol and 2 doses (4 pills) of Tramadol and about the withdrawals. She said don't worry because I need them. Told me to take at least one dose of each a day to stop symptoms and when I don't need them anymore to i'll be weaned off them. Feel a bit less fed up now despite no sleep (worry and pain). Thanks everso again and I look forward to getting involved on here.

Hi Abbie, great news, this forum is a great way to relieve stress and not to feel alone, so make the most of it....altho this forum is importnat about leaning about difficulties e all get, we also try to be informal, and infact do have a giggle from time to time, even if the problem is kinda off topic, we still talk, becos at the end of the day, anything that worries u, or upsets u, can cause stress, whixh is best to avoid, as it can make u feel lousy, and perhaps make the pain worse, so Welcome to our Fab Forum, look forward to your posts, good luck with the micro biologists review, im sure everything will be ok for u, so no worrying tc Jill x
