Subject: shaking/muscle twitches/spasms

Something that's been happening quite recently (along with everything else) is that I've been getting deep muscle twitches/spasms, like when you get 'flicky eye' when you're tired.

I'm still waiting to see my rheumy for the first time, so not on MTX or equivalent yet, but know I have damage to both hips, pelvis and spine.

The twitching started in my worse leg, but now I get it deep in the body, at odd times, in odd places, and also get shaky hands every now and then too, which is a bit scary. I have noticed my hands are weaker, are getting swollen, stiff and painful - find motor control is sometimes getting difficult. (Petrified of losing mobility in my hands and shoulders as I'm a 'cello teacher.)

Does anyone know what might cause this? I'm hoping it could be a side effect of naproxen or tramadol?

HM hi again...soz in other post i typed HW...Anyway, I do get spasams, think that is normal, i get it in my back, arms, u described it perfectly like Flicky eye....I also put mine down to the fact Ive recently been told ive got Tendon degeneration(nowt can be doen for that sadly) and now realise its the tendons, and muscsles that twitch, spasam etc.....wonder if others on here feel the same, be interesting to see how many do....Ive been on tramadol in past, and dont think that its the meds...its nowt sinister tho HM , i believe its the stress the body is under, My gp told me recently too, that my body gets Overwhelemed with this condtion, becos I have other health probs, it can soemtimes feel like im drowning......hope u feel some kinda comfort that u r not alone....especially if others in here have same....tc jill x

Thank you SOOOO much for that - it was really helpful! Yes, it does make sense that it would be the muscles/tendons reacting to what was going on around them. My GP said you get things like twitchy eye when you're tired, and if your entire body is trying to compensate for having a dodgy immune system it would make sense that that might happen! Thanks Jill x

U r so welcome HM, u need to see a shoulder expert, i c one at the conquest...Mr.Buchanan, they have a combined shoulder clinic withthe rhumatologist present......maybe your shoulders are under pressure, and possible can be sorted...I had two shoulder ops back in 2006, had impingment, where tendons get caught by the shoulder bone.....IF its anything worse than that, tey can put in a complete new shoulder...after all, most ppl have total hip replacements, with amazing affect! so there is hope out there.....try and not worry, we all do, I know, but stress is a terrible thing, keep coming on here, keep asking any questions, and hopefully u will feel some comfort, this forum certainly helps my peace of mind.....tc HM xx
