Hi Paul, sounds as if you have been through a horrendous time. I don't know that much about Mtx, just that it can cause your white cell count to go low, especially if you've had any illnesses. I had to stop taking mine recently when I got a chest infection. Have you talked to your GP about your fears? They are well placed to help you through this worrying time and they will know what might be causing your low white cell count. I'm sorry I can't help you more but please try and talk to your gp or consultant soon as poss and get some proper information from them. It's the only way you can stop your mind speculating about what is wrong. I do hope everything is ok. Let us know how it goes.

Same here Paul please try to stop worrying as it will make you feel a lot worse by just not eating and sleeping - just enjoy your family. Good Luck ;0)

hi Paul, I didn't realise you had discussed it with your consultant already. Sorry I misunderstood. But, they are saying 'ruling out' cancer - not that you have got it. Your results may well improve and let's hope they do. There's no point at all going down the route of thinking you have cancer already cos you just don't know that. Cancer is such a scary word that you are bound to worry but try and take one day at a time at the moment. Focus on your family and keep it together for them. That blood test will come round soon enough. Take care & keep in touch. I am away over the weekend but there are lots of other good people on here who will support you.

Hiya Paul,Just read my good old blood result sheet again regarding wbc and it says some people levels are the lower end of the scale while others are at the upper end of the scale. If they go to the lower end this may mean that the bone marrow is being supressed by the medication. We look for trends in the blood results rather than one off results.
So it sounds like it could just be the medication lowering the count and once off them it will correct itself.
Keep us updated and take care.x

Hi Paul, wish I could help, know its hard to take if we say Stay pos, and not to worry, Im being honest, I wld feel same as u, it wld cross my mind too, but also stres can make u feel so much worse, the brain can bring on more pain just by worry and stress.....its good that they r doing further test on u, dont be scared that they r doing the bone marrow one one u, Like Angela said and others, meds cld be the reason u r so unwell, we have a ovely gal in here, and her methtrexate make her feel sooooooooo ill.....I have Reiters disease as well as Inflamatory Arhritis, R.A.??same treatment, same condtion, so they dont know what mine is , anyway, I have severe Reiters, that affects all the soft tissues, i.e. discs get eaten away, tissue tears etc....however, in the past when ive had chest pains, or palpititations, i feel ive got heart disease, simply becos Reitersw can cause a weaking in the valves, and becos i have Reiter chronically on top of Inflam artha,i often think to myself, "how do they know i dont have heart affected too" but had check ups, and my heart is fine.....so I have worried myself sick and all it did was bring on more palps.....us lot in here do understand your fears, like I often say, pain is pain, and obviosuly fear is fear, its hard to cope with...so one day at a time...u r young and fit and got everything to live for.....think u will find its just your meds ok, takes time to find things out and fo them to eliminate whats going on in ya body....My consultants cant believe that I have Reiters, inflam artha,R.A.? DDD(disc degeneration disease) cervical spondy(posh word for discs gone in neck) and recently told and diagnosed with Tendon degenration, cried like a baby when i was told that, pain is horrendous! anyway chin up Ok take care and keep coming back to your forum, Welcome by the way x

No they were due blood tests because both had low wbc, and were frightened that it might be because of something sinister.
I hope they are okay,Paul especially was so scared as you can read from the top of this post.
Glad you have your car back, hope your confidence with driving hasn't been affected by your accident.

Great to hear from you Paul.
So pleased about the results.
It looks like it was the mtx then, and there is no cancer.
I understand just how you felt,I had a scare like that last year, thought that was it. But it corrected itself.
Anyway all that horrible worry is over now.
Maybe you could get a steroid injection for your knee to keep you going.
Take Care
