Subject: Hi

Hello everyone, not too sure what to put here but here goes: I've been suffering from damage to my knee since 10 years old. A bike accident caused internal bleeding on my knee for several years before it was spotted and since then my knee has been pretty much messed up. I'm now almost 40 and the docs say i have progressive osteo arthritis. Had an op last year but a year later i did some exercise regularly over a few months and triggered it all off again. Great. I'm in pain or at the least, sore every day and my every day life is severely affected. It's difficult for me to do much around the house and it's tough on my family. I also get very irritable because im frustrated. I try not to be but sometimes i cant help it and strong pain killers, such as codine make a real monster. They are very understanding, so i'm very lucky. I know there are people who are so much worse off than me, so please accept my apologies for complaining. Feeling a bit rum :-(

Hi Jill. Thanks for the message. It meant an awful lot to read that so thank you. You know, I was feeling alone.....and terribly frustrated....and useless........so useless. I feel so stupid I guess because if i can inject some rational thinking into my head, i know there are sufferers out there who are much worse off than me, who endure so much more pain than me and yet they are strong and keep going. This leads me to your question...i'm male.....and i'm rubbish with pain tolerance!!! Lol.

I guess i have only myself to blame for the aggro again. Im pretty sure i over did it with the exercise, so it's my fault. I took myself off the Codine last week (well it was Cocodamol that turned me into an angry zombie)and went back to Naproxen that i had initially not got on with (they made me nauscious). However, this time I am getting on with them and they help fairly well. I have checked some nhs web sites and they reckon i can buy it over the counter. Do you know (or any other members) if this is correct? I went to the Boots website and it said i needed to a perscription to get some more and they (perscriptions) are so expensive.

Thanks again Jill.

Chris.

Thanks Jill.

I'm so sorry about your news, it must really destroy your will power after all you have gone through. I feel like my problems are only a tiny scratch compared to what you must be going through and I wish you the sincerest of good luck.

I had some Reike treatment on my knee yesterday. Boy, it knocked me right out, i can tell you!!! Had a rough time getting to sleep last night but eventually got there. Leg very uncomfortable this morning, twinging no matter how i sat. Even my foot complained when taking a few basic steps. Afternoon better thankfully. I loaned a wheelchair recently from the Red Cross for trips out but mostly for our hols next month in Florida. There's no way my knee/leg will last in those huuuge (but fab) theme parks. Can't wait, it's something to really look forward to but I will miss being able to run around with the kids......

We took the chair for a spin in my local Tesco today. I had forgotten the looks you get from people.....(i loaned a chair for op recovery, last year.)

Forgot to ask, are there any other male posters on this message board?

I'll shut up now. Lol.

Chris.
