Subject: hi everyone. not long been diagnosed with r/a

visited my gp about 3 months ago after my knee's and elbows started to sieze up. not long after i started getting severe pain in my feet and hands.my gp put me on dicloflex and arrange an hospital app with a rhummey.the dicloflex eased my knees and elbows but did little for my hand and feet.saw the rhummey 3 weeks ago and after xrays and bllod test confirmed i had inflammatory r/a.she wanted to put me on methotrexate but i have to wait for bloods results first.due back next week and expect to be put on mtx. in the meantime i have developed the fat fingers and swollen ankles.i know mtx takes a while to kick in so not looking forward to the next few weeks.any help or advice appreciated cheers..bloody hell that was hard work typing that thought i was writing a book lol.

Welcome Gary

Ask your rheumy for a steroid injection when you go to see them. It helped me whilst I was waiting for my drugs to kick in. Ive been on Mtx but hated it, although it works for loads of people so don't be put off.

You won't be in pain for too long, so don't get down..there is help out there.

Take Care
Karen

hi gary

it took about 3 months before methatrexate kicked in with me the first months are the worst, its worth asking about steriod injections to help take the edge off and give more movement until mxt kicks in.

good luck stick with it

its good to get advice from people who have been there tried it so thanks. i've never been one to take medication unless i really have to so i will try to avoid the steriod injections for now. the pain is bearable at the mo but i will no what to ask for if it gets to bad.im working so it helps to keep my mind off things and i find after an hour or so my joints eases up a bit so not all bad.
thanks ladies and take care

Hi Gary, the gals r right, if u find U cant cope whislt waiting, a steroid jab works....dont be worried about them, they r monitored and wont give u too many in one year...think maximyum is 4 mb 5.....take ya MTX at nightm sleeep thru it..... side affects for most of us has been the sicky feeling, and severe tiredness...which I beleive comes from the condition....so take it easy on ya self..... imon MTX and ĶEnbrel...... there r alos good painkillers out there too.....I like U hate taking Meds of any sort, but ive had no choice....... take care keep in touch with us lot....x
