Subject: Well and truly fed up !

My reactive arthritis reappeared after 8 year remission now on methotrexate 15 mg week, ( previously salasapyrin)been on it 8 weeks no improvement, just tired and run down with cold after cold . How long does it take on average to get into the system? Does anybody know of a good anti inflammatory cause the celebrex not working either. Thanks matt

hi matt i am currently on 25mg mtx on average they say can take upto 3 months before mtx gets into your system properly and you start noticing any differance i taking diclofenic at moment but cant say that its doing any good as i havent noticed any differance the one thing i have noticed is since the weather got colder my knees are giving me more trouble and i been taking mtx for the last 8 months and have now started having problems with my eyes conjunctivites dont know if its linked to the mtx or my condition pa, try going back to your gp and ask if there is any other anti inflammatory you can try as the one you taking isnt helping let us know how u got on lol

I think what I am really finding it hard to deal with is the fact that over the years I have tried many combinations of treatments but have never found one that leaves me less stiff and without pain , well apart from when it went into remission and I was taking nothing. The only thing that has really gotten hold of it this time was a monster dose of steroid in the buttock , that should have given me upto 3 months relief, it did nt but I had my best 10 days in ages. Hiya Mat,
I take m.s.m.in powder form as an anti inflammatory, and also powder vit c every day. My discomfort is managable, and I dont feel tired or suffer from colds and stuff.
I am on sulfasalizine and MTX,(been on sulfa for 8 months and MTX for 3weeks) and was told by my rhummy nurse a few weeks ago to stop taking m.s.m. because she thought it might interfere with the sulfasalizine.
I stopped for 3 days and the discomfort and pain was unbearable, so had to go straight back on it and was fine again within a day or two.
I found the evidence she required that it was not related to sulpher itself off the net and gave it to her on my next visit, she then said it was fine to carry on taking it also the vit c was okay to.
I do also watch my diet for things that aggravate the RA, and crazy as it is my ESR is still sky high,so nothing is bringing the blood results down, and although I do have difficulty walking with my knees being swollen, my discomfort is minimal.
I know that one thing can help one person and not another but m.s.m. obviously helps me.
Hope this helps.

Hi Matt im Jill, I have Reactive Arthritis, formally known as ReA, or Inflamatory arthritis.... I know your pain....Im on MTX and ANTi TNF biologic meds...ask about them next time u see ya rhummy.... that was my last resort....and I hhave had less flare ups, and when I do get one, they dont last as long, they have been my life line! Also Like Karen said...ARCOXIA is the best anti inflam ive ever had, tried a few trust me, they r the best and apparently the most expensive ones on the NHS.... gotta be honest tho Matt, u were lucky to have 8 years of remission, and mb now something has triggered it back off again, u r having a bad flare up.....so hang in there.....but Y dont u ask about Enbrel etc.... takes 3 months or so to get into system....but will help u....im going to be honest Matt, im not entirely without pain, even tho im on these amazing meds, ive still had 7 ops over since 2003, but only been on theses meds just over two years.... also need a spine op.....i learnt to accept that i will never be pain free, simply becos it attacks every joint and every tendon and ligament within my body.......having said that....Stay Positive, Positivity is everything....(My mantra)....come bk to the forum, let us know how u r keeping pls, this isa good place to feel like u r not alone ok....we do also have a gigggle and a larf....so come bk and share what ever with us...take care Jill

I've been taking the green lipped mussel "Seatone" since I was 34 and I'm now 62 but I think I'm now allergic to it and have to stop taking it.
