Hiya Karen, I take m.s.m. for inflammation as my stomach cant accept the anti inflammatories and it does help.My esr was coming down smashing on it, but the rhummy nurse advised me to stop taking it because she needed to check it out with the rhummy, so I did for 1 week and my esr flew up again, so I gathered as much information on it myself and took it back and she said I could take it again. She was worried that it was related to the sulfasalizine that I take but in fact it isn't.
If you go to www.msmguide.com it will give you information on it. Or google methylsulfonyl and you will find plenty of info.
I also take daily vit c, magnesium, and evening primrose just to keep my well being in order as much as I can,(I am 53 and have had RA for 18months by the way)So even though my bloods dont look good,I cant say I feel total poo my energy levels aren't bad, so maybe they help I dont know.
I dont push my joints but I do swim twice a week well I power walk in the water thats all I can do just yet.People look at me as if I have two heads but I dont care lol its better than nothing, and it takes my mind off my aches and pains.
I also watch what I eat and I know pasta, biscuits, pastries and crisp really make me feel bad so I avoid them.
For a long while I kept a diary of all the food I ate and how I felt every day to see if there was a difference and after a while I realized what made me feel worse so I cut them out.
My guess is if I still drank, and ate what I wanted,I would be suffering a lot more. I know its a pain but needs must.
Like you I am used to being very active, and I hate all this but I try to stay as positive as I can.
I know how hard it must be for you with a little one and all. But keep your chin up, and keep asking questions, I am sure you will find a plan that works for you in the end.
Take Care xx

Hi karen I know its difficult, ive got a young family 5 kids in all to look after, the youngest is ten, but he has Aspergers syndrome(mild Autism, plus 16 year old with same condition) anyway, being a mum for me is hard too, I use to struggle with my probs when they were youger also, know its hard and a strugggle.... in the past I cld barely walk....but now U r on MTX hopefully there will be improvement...there is alo the Bilogic meds that help even more.... they have helped my feet and hands so much.... I also take Arcoxia inflams, they r suppose to be the best...but remember they r only just an anti inflam with very little painkiller in them.... there r deffo better painkillers out there, but like u said, they knock u out, again after a while, they stop knocking u out as ya body get use to it....im on opiates(morphine) and they dont make me feel anything...but help lots with the pain... I get tired due to my disease... and i want to fall asleep during the day, not becos of the meds im on, its the condtion..... anyway Tramodol work well for pain, u really do need a decent painkiller....mb u can take some when ya hubby is about, say at wekends, that way u get some pain relief....... take care Jill x

Hi Karen, lol everyone seeems to ber from up north.....im in east Sussex, Near Rye.... 12 miles from Hastings...1066 country lol...beautiful part of the south..... karen regards your back, if they r wanting to operate to release tht nerve, it will sort out so many of your symptoms, that is exactly Y your back and legs go....plus how do u cope with that type of pain, its Dreadful....lol u told me to have my back op, and Im goona tell U to have yours too lol.... blimey u have got it bad, didnt realise it was so bad for u...R.A. is bad enuff , but to have disc and trappped nerves in ya spine is awful.....what do u do at night for comfort, do u put a pillow behind ya back to support it?so u dont roll over and hurt ya back in ya sleep... mind u, I wake up everytime I move, pain wakes me up...... take care Karen and I will always reply to posts, we all will, thats what we r all here for, to support each other..... BTW when your consultants spoke to u about u needing the spine op...what did they suggest they could do for u?? xx
