Subject: new here!

Hi im new to this site, brought here by my need to find out more about RA/PA.

Last year i was diagnosed with hip impingement and am due to have hip preservation surgery at Torbay .

I have now been referred to A Rheumy at Derriford as i have other painful joints, inflammation fatigue etc.

This has come as a big shock to me as i thought i would get the 2 hip surgeries over with and be able to get back to some semblance of normality.

I look forward to reading and learning more from you all!

Hi Shazza.
i have the appointment on 28th oct, day after my 50th birthday so better not celebrate too much! Have been referred query PA , my daughter has already been diagnosed it was her who spotted my symptoms lol So its her fault haha.

Im not sure whether its RA or Pa just know that i ache and swell in wrists, ankles, hips (but that could be the impingement) elbows fingers and toes lol quite a list! Also have little lumps appearing on some fingers. Its great to find somewhere to talk

Welcome Karen, goood to have u on board...I have Reiters disease, (affects all soft tissues, cartledge, discs, eyes etc...BUT its left me with Inflamatory Artha...which attacks my joints all of them... I have so far had 7 ops since 2003, all corrective surgery, I must admit I havnt heaard of Hip Impingment!! I have had two ops on my hips....first to remove inflamed Bursa of the right hip...then 6 months went back in to have a huge tear in the soft tissue(thanks to reiters) and they scrappped away arthritis in the hip joint, on top of that I have constant inflamation around my body, and Like Shazza im on Methtrexate 17.5 weekly tablet and Bilogic Meds callled Enbrel Injections....MTX is immune suppressant, and Enbrel is Anti TNF Biologic med(complicated)....lol Val said i knew a lot, I really only know a lot about my own, but artha is treated the same, with the same condultants, and same Meds at end of the day...pain is Pain no matter what the type is..... Im sooo glad U have an appt, and mb U do have same as yur daughter, How does she cope? so horrible that U r suffereing too, does yur daughter cope well with it? in a way its a great help I guess, that way U can help each other, that is important,....this forum is a fab place to get info(not that ive helped U Much, but we can whinge on here, but also not only let off steam, but support everyone...... I do understand what Hip impingement means, but can u let me know what they r going to do to correct it? they were going to do hip resurfacing on me at some point, my hips still hurt bad, but ive also for to have spinal fusion and they tell me that the pain is coming from my back into my hips......maybe thats tru....... anyway enuff about me, sorry to go on, just giving u the picture lol, but many many of us in here r in pain like u, its rotten I know, but at least we all understand and can support U ok........so come back and keep us informed, and I hope others on here that have your specific condition can help U lots.....what painkillers r u on?

take care

love Jill

hi Jill,
its all a little daunting isnt it?

Im on naproxen 500mg, co-codamol 30/500 mg and lansoprazole 30 mg. If i take them all each day i rattle ha ha!

My daughter has PA but only mildly at the moment, thank goodness as she has a stressful job and hubby and 3 year old to chase after.

I will be having surgery to remove the overgrown bone on the hip sockets, which catch when i walk sit etc, also to remove the bumps on the head of the femur. I also have a tear on the right side which is why i have more pain in that hip, we think!

Its interesting to hear what others experiences are, and sadly i expect to come on here and whinge off and on if you can put up with me!!!

Karen LOL u wanna hear me go on....it wld be enufff to put u off coming in lol..... I prefer to do the supporting bit myself, but lately ive needed the support of all my ickle m8s in here, they have been gr8 to me....... we r here for everyone that visits, often or not, however, if a person doenst come in say 3 months, unfort we can forget the orig person and their illness etc, becos we talk to so many, about so many diff subjects, so its fab to see someone come in on a regular basis, if they wish to of course, no pressure, we wil always be in here.....ive been coming in daily for about 7 months only, so not a long time..... i enjoy it, we can have a giggle in here to........welll goood luck with your op and ya right, i had a tear in my right hip, was soooooo painful....your daughter is under a gr8 deal of stress then, im glad hers is only mildly at the mo....is she on any meds that keep away the degeneration?

when U have your Hip op, u will feel so much better, so many ppl tell me that after a replacement, or in your case to get rid of the bumps.....so goooooood luck ok....see u soon, take care

Love Jill x

lol thanks all for the birthday wishes!!
I have swollen painful fingers and toe, painful wrists and elbows etc. But he put all my pain down to my hip problems, makes no sense to me either, then he asked had i had x rays and MRI at Torbay for my hips, i said yes and he said well i cant access them!! It was really like a farce, i have been and got my meds and made an appointment with gp for weds afternoon.

Jill..i only have the psoriasis on my scalp, thankfully.
