Subject: Could it be R.A?

Hello all,

I am new here, I dont have a diagnosis of R.A at present and am just looking for a bit of advice so any thoughts would be really helpfull.

I am 28 and have been suffering from bilateral joint pain since my early 20's. Main joints affected are in feet ankles, knees, wrists and fingers (basically all of me then). Pain is usually bearable and generally worse in the mornings have also noticed it gets much worse the week before my time of the month, when I often wake up several times at night because I am so sore and stiff.

Have had 2 prior episodes of really bad pain with swelling and redness of my joints lasting 8 weeks plus (tested positive for Rhuematoid Factor both these times).

I am currently experiencing one of these episodes now has already lasted 3 weeks :-(, everything is just so sore and stiff, cant sleep much at nights and driving is an absolute nightmare because my feet and hands are so tender.

Have been to see my G.P who has prescribed Naproxen have been taking it 3 x a day but it is doing nothing to ease the pain. Have had bloods done and will go back on Friday for results.

I have asked to be referred to a rhuemy before when Ive had this but the G.P's in my surgery dont seem to think its necessary. They never seem able to tell me whats causing the problem.

Depending on which doc I see it is caused by something different. You name it theyve diagnosed it, unexplained infection (????) , depression , chronic fatigue, flu (6+ years one long episode of flu if you ask me!).But I really think there is something a bit more to it

It has got to the point where I dont even bother seeing them about it unless I absolutley have to because I feel like I am just being fobbed off.

Apologies for the incredibly long post but could really do with some advice, ideas etc and thought this may be a really usefull way to spend yet another sleepless night.

Thanks guys :-)

Hiya Veeleigh, After reading your post, I think I would definately go back to the GP and dont ask, tell him/her you want to be referred to a Rhumatologist, especially if you tested positive for the Rhumatoid factor.
It will be interesting to see if your bloods ESP and CRP come back showing let us know.
You dont have to aplogise for your long post thats what everyone is here for, you will recieve plenty of support I am sure.
Take Care

Hi Veeleigh welcome to our cosy Forum, its full of fab interesting ppl, and we all have pain and probs etc, so help one another....... I am sooooo angry with your GP, how dre he NOT refer U to a rhumatologist!!!!! its awful, Like Angela said, U r entitled to see a Rhummy.....OMG im shocked! im upset too, makes me mad...U must be in soooooooo much pain, U need decent painkillers, Like Transtec pain patches, Zomorph, to name but a few, or couple, evem Tramodol wld make a difference to u...... Some GPs try to save cahs I guess, I just dont get it.....U have rights, U r entitled to see a rhummy, please go back, make an appointment, TELL him U WANT to see an EXPERT, cos hes just the Monkey so to speak.... GPs are General practitioners, Not Consultants..... everyone i n here will be angry about your story, they will ALL tell u to do the same, Get a referal!!! Telll U what, all your symptoms will cause u to get depressed, no one can take constant nagging pain without feeling fed up and in tears.... I personally would change Docs! U deserve better treatment.....from what Ur post says, ur in a bad way...pleae come back and tell us U have made an appt....we NAGGED Val silly lol, and she went in the end, and she is glad we did nag her, in a nice way of course....... goood luck, pleae tell us how U get on take care...Jill x
