Subject: R.A is showing up in my blood

hi ppl im new on here came across u when i was looking for somethin online to help with my pains.I have not been told i deffo have R.A but iv been to the doc and its coming up in my blood.anyway i was wonderin if anyone has the same symptoms.I have very bad back pain and knee pain but its my arms that are really bad, from the shoulder down, although its not just the joints.I dont have alot of problems with my fingers or toes so that is making me think its something else.I have a hospital appointment on wed. but this isnt makin me feel any better as i was there 2yrs ago with the same problem and they as much as said it was in my head cos the xrays didnt show that my joints were damaged, believe me these pains are real and this is the second time its came up in my blood.I no u arnt doctors but can anyone tell me if this has happened to them,im worried its something else or it is R.A and this is 2yrs on and i feel that early diagnoses must be an advantage. Thanks

Hi Sharon, we have another sharon in this forum, so this is going to be complicated, knowing who is who, so to speak....OK that is a lot of pain u r telling us u have, how dare they say that its all in your head just becos the xrays didnt show damage.....mb 2 yrs on there will be, hopefully for your sake there wont be..... there r many different types of arthritis... so many differnt types. so it takes time to diagnose each of us....did u see a rhumatologist?? who was it that told u it was all in your head, they need to be shot!! I have inflamatory arthritis, and reiters disease, attacks my soft tissues and joints and tendons etc....so i get pain all down my arms too, due to the tendonisitis i have! U take notes when u go, so u dont forget, take someone else with u too, a rhumatologsit should take u seriously ok.....make them listen...goood luck, anmd come back and tell us how u got on

Hi Cillian,If its any help I have been diagnosed with RA and I have no trouble at all with my fingers or toes either, my diagnosis came from high inflammation readings in my blood.
As for the pain in shoulders and muscles I feel just the same , its like having two frozen shoulders.
Nothing on the back but both knees affected to.
I often wonder if mines RA, in fact I have asked for a lyme disease test as this can mimic RA,because my condition came on very quick, and only one year before I was in contact with wild deer and wild birds and had an insect burrow into my shin,it got infected, and laid me up for a while, dont know if it was a tick, but thought it better to get checked.
It could be a long shot but you just never know.

Hiya Jill,It was only when a friend of mine reminded me about the insect thing just recently, and it made me think, so when I had to see my GP again last week I told him about the incident, and straight away he arranged for me to have a blood test. That takes place on Friday.
Mine was nothing like a huge fat maggot, it was only a tiny black spot, I thought it was a bit of dirt and tried to squeeze it (as you do) but it wouldn't come out.It ended up getting badly infected,so I went to A&E and I was told it was an insect and they gave me a few courses of antibiotics, and eventually it settled.
I would have never mentioned it because I never thought anything about it until now, and when I read about Lyme I thought wow, but it might all just be co incidence we will see.

Jill you have me pmsl about which sharon i am,im the new one,i think unless there is another new one since me lol. That is really interesting angela, when i was at hospital y-day i was talking to a girl who had same symptoms as me and it isnt RA she has but another form that effects muscles not just joints and she got it by eating chicken that wasnt cooked properly when she was in spain. They had to do loadsa test before they got to the bottom of it,doc done 5 other blood tests on me cos he doesnt think its RA i have because ov the pains all over and i also fall asleep at the drop of a hat.I actually couldnt keep my eyes open in the hospital.Anyway its gr8 that we can talk in here and get all this feedback, cos sometimes i feel like im beatin my head off a brick wall.Knowin someone else has the same symptoms doesnt make you feel so alone.I have to wait 3wks now for results,in the meantime they sendin me for physio for my neck and shoulders.Anyway hope you get things sorted angela let me know how things go with your blood test.Im gonna look lymes up now myself.I hope your not so confused about who i am jill,we'll get there lol.xx

Chillian, Hi again,You sound just like me I searched and searched to try and find what I think I could have and I have looked up fibromyalgia and polymyalgia and thought they sound more like me to, especially with the constant high ESR.

My rhummy nurse got xrays taken of my feet and hands last week so when I see her again lets see if there is any damage because she said that it always starts there, even though I said i have never had any trouble with them.
It will be interesting to see what you blood tests show to.

HAHAHA I am just the same Chillian. The trouble is there are loads and loads of different forms of arthritis.
No I haven't mentioned Fibromyalgia or the other but I will when I go back for my Lyme Disease test, I bet he dreads seeing me lol.But like many say you have to fight to get the right diagnosis, and I am determined not to be pumped with drugs if I dont need them, and take the right ones if I do.
Yes we are on a mission two heads are better than one.We will get there in the end.
Take Care xx
