Subject: Leg pain and Hip Replacement

Hi just found this site and hope someone can give me advice.

I am having a total hip replacement in 2 weeks but meantime I am im agony with pain in my legs.

Walking is almost impossible too.

Sleep is so poor I am exhausted all day. But my worst pain is in the whole of my legs....like darting slashes moving from one part to another right down to my feet.

My fear is this won't go when the hip is done.

Anyone got an experience of this please.

Hi

Have you asked your doctor if the pain you have has anything to do with sciatica? Sciatica can be extremely painful and you do get pain running down your legs. I have had it and when it's bad it is impossible to stand because of the pain. It's caused by a pinching of the sciatic nerve at the top of the leg usually because of inflammation. Your hips may have something to do with it - maybe after your replacement the pain will go.

Have a word with your GP about it.

Thankyou for your reply Trina.

I have suffered Sciatica for years but hope this pain was from the hip as its almost unbearable.

My GP or Consultant don't seem to listen when I talk of leg pain though.

2 weeks today and it will be all over by this time I hope.
Not looking forward to the opp but reief from the pain.

Thanks again D of E

Hello again.....well I had my right hip replaced on the 13th and the leg pain has gone.......horrayyyy.

Now my left knee has taken such a battering with taking so much weight to lift out of the bed or chair.....I litteraly wept with pain this afternoon.

I feel I have swopped one pain for another now.

But for anyone needing a Total Hp Replacement.....go for it via an epidural. I did and it saved all that horrible recovery from Anethesia after wards.

Hello, only just found this forum.
50 year old male.
Right hip resurfaced two years ago.
I had my left hip totally replaced two weeks ago and they used a different epidural/anesthetic. The first post op recovery was horrendous but this time it was a doddle.
Staples removed today but the knee pain is now really beginning to kick in. So it looks like it's two down two to go.
Shaun.
