Subject: DLA - GRRRRR
Hi All, As some of you know i have applied for DLA it took them 13 weeks for them to get to a choice and they awareded me middle rate care. I have requested an "appeal" 8 weeks ago. The reason for the appeal is that simply i find most things difficult i can no-longer drive due to damage in my foot ect. Also the fact my partner has to help me with everything. I can not walk far and today infact i tried togo food shopping and i kept tripping because i was that tired! Anyway my Consultant, GP, support Worker & OT agreed with this to appeal (seeing OT weds for some toys to help my life a bit better). Anyway i rang the DWP/DLA people today and politely asked were the hell my appeal letter was and why ive not heard anything from them (rang recently to inform them of change in circs due to damage being found in foot which does and will affect my mobility). I was told we have LOST your file nothing can be done until the file is found, i was nearly falling asleep on the phone to them because i was drosy :( Anyway i now have no indication when i will hear from dla and i just feel totally deflated. Any ideas what i can do? thanks

Minght be asking a silly question but did you photo copy your form and letter. you could resend them. Did you do your letter on computer and save copy.. sorry if you didn't. apart from rewriting your letter, I don't know. Monica in here used to work for DLA she may be able to give you some ideas. Sorry can't help much on this. Hope they sort things out soon. Take care xx

Hi Vicky When you put in an appeal it can take up to three months or more, hopeless i know. if they have lost your form. i am sorry but you will probably have to do it again, if someone is going to help you, always remember to put your worst case scenario down, does not matter how well you feel that day, although it sounds as if you feel awful. I am sorry if they have lost your form,, when everything has gone through you always get the money from the date they received it, so if they have lost it just tell them you expect it from the date you first sent it, and hope this is from when they will backdate it. I used to work at the jobcentre as a civil servant, not at the DLA centre, but i did do alot for people for dla, fill in forms, if i felt that people were not fit for work i would hand them the form put the six week period on and get them to fill it out, or i would do it myself when possible. I did not work for the dla itself, i just know about it through working at the DWP. But if i can help anyone i am only to glad. Monica
