Subject: Psoriatic Arthritis & Sulphasalazine.

Hello All,

Have been advised that I have Psoriatic Arthritis. Its affecting both thumbs, wrists, lumbar region and both knees.

A consultant Rheumatologist has ordered blood tests and depending on those results is suggesting a course of Sulphasalazine.

I wondered if any of you have tried this form of medication and if so how did you get on with it?

Thanks...Connor.

Not everyone has problems, but it can happen... just go with your feelings, i am supposed to start methotrexate, which i heard so other things, i just hope it does not cause me problems like the other stuff...

Hi Conner,
I have been taking sulfasalizine forabout 5 months now. I have sero negative Arthritis.
I have got on with it fine.and had no adverse reaction.
My blood ESR rate is still very high though over 100, and my joints still hurt.
The biggest thing I have noticed is that I dont seem to be as stiff, but thats about it.
Hope this helps

Hello Val,

I will keep you posted.

I have a question. Are one of the symptoms of Psoriatic Arthritis bouts of fatique ? Sometimes for no reason I can fathom I suddenly feel completely washed out and just want to sleep. It can come on at any time even half way through a morning when I think I should really be wide awake and with it.

I live in Cyprus and it can get pretty hot here, but this tiredness hits me during cooler parts of the day so I'm pretty sure its not climate related.

Am due to see the Rheumatologist on Friday so I'll check with her, but in the meantime I thought I'd ask you folks.

Regards to all...Connor.

Hi Connor,
I'm guessing fatigue can come with all the different type of arthritis you can get. I may have Rheumatoid Arthritis and get really tired, usually around 3 O'Clock.
Take care xx

Lynne...Does the dry weather help my arthritis ?

In my case I think it does. Having said that it can, later in the day, get quite humid here and that aggravates the psoriasis.

There are a lot of retired Brits now living in Cyprus and their opinion on it varies about 50/50. Some say the heat helps and others say it worsens their symptoms. Maybe it depends on the type of arthritis ?

Its funny, some pppl say to me, Oh I bet ya artharitis is worse in the cold......I then say errrrr actually, I can get a flare up anytime, cold hot or in between! that stumps em.... and btw...if anyone I know told me I was lazy, if it was a So callled m8, id drop them like a ton of bricks, I dont have the patience for peeps that r naraow minded and cant see other peeps point of view.....these type of peep in general often cant empathise with others and their ailments....that is the most ignorant traits a person can have....... I truly hate ignorant and tactless peeps that think U have to be looking like your goona put a sown payment on ya coffin, b4 they accept that u r suffering a disease...... i guess the peeps that I choose to know, know that ive had so many ops, they do beleive me...... my advice is....telll em to shudddup! and when they r more knowledegable about sickness in general, i may speak with them again, if family, then of course we cant shoose family, but id sure as hell wldnt tkae crap from any member of my family....yea come to think about it, id probably tell en to get stufffed too! lololololol.....its becos im not a selfish person, i now know peeps can be very sick but look fab.....that much ive learnt on my journey
