Subject: Tinnitus

Hi All
Fairly new to forum. I have mentioned that i have Arthritis and CS. But does anyone through having CS have tinnitus? My gp states that the tinnitus is because of the neck, sometimes it seems as if the loud pitched noises are coming from my ears, or just one sided, or from all areas of my head. Sometimes it is really loud, other days its not there, or it can be very low pitched. Any help? Thanks

Hi monica I get a touch of that mines not that bad though. The doc did send me for a hearing test and they cou d loud noise damage in both ears as for the tinitus they said they couldn't do anything about it. Was just told to leave the radio on Ll day so that it would slightly block it. But as I say mine is very mold. Hope you get some relief . Take care

Hi Monica,I have RA and yes I have it and it drives me mad especially at night. Mine is more of a heart beat sound, and it gets loud at times then sometimes its very faint.
This may sound silly but I have a very clicky jaw on the side that bothers me, and if I kind of push my jaw back into place and hold it the pressure and sound is not as bad, so I think it has to do with that, but my doc just said it is tinnitus and has not related it to the RA at all.
I think your GP has it right, because long before I got diagnosed with RA I suffered with a bad neck, shoulders and jaw.

Hi Angela

Thanks for writing. My jaw clicks and hurts at times and it makes a grinding noise, i know i have arthritis of the jaw.I have been told i could have TMJ, when i went for furthur tests the woman i saw stated she did not think the problem i had was TMJ. I told her about the fact that i get the pain in my ears as well as behind, also the tinnitus, which like you can be a heartbeat sound, or a rushing sound, even a high pitched noise that seems as if it is coming from anywhere in any part of my head. But the gp states it is part of the arthritis due to my neck. But i am sure i read somewhere that if you put pressure on you head or face at anytime it can start tinnitus off, but i cannot remember where i read this. Anyway i do get the occassional day off from having it. Anyway i hope yours gives you a bit of peace at times.
Keep well. x

Hiya Jill, Yes it is me, I am not so bad thanks. Although I am still on the sulfasalizine, I have decided not to go on the MTX for now.
I have been experimenting with alternative medicine to try and get the inflammation down, and this has led to me coming off the painkillers, and anti inflammatories but you know what its like, I am still battling and dont take anything for granted I just wait and see day by day.
I have changed my eating heaps to to try not to aggravate it, hence lost a bit of weight which cant do me any harm.
Hope you and yours are good.
Take care

Hi again Monica,I am just the same as you with the jaw, in fact I am glad you posted this because I hadn't been able to find anyone with such an identical problem.
I have looked up tmj and it talks about scoleosis, have you got that as well?
I have, I was a breach baby to,I wonder if all these could be connected.

Hi Monica - I'm completely new to this site and this will be my second comment today!

Regarding the tinnitus - had to change some time ago from naproxyn to diclofenac because of tinnitus (I read in the patient notes that this was a possible side effect and mentioned this to my GP who changed me over) Couple of weeks after the change-over I realised that I wasn't getting the tinnitus. Have a look at the patient information sheets which come with your meds. you may find that tinnitus is one of the possible side effects.

Regards

Judi

Hi Angela
Sorry for taking so long in replying, but have not been to good. As far as i know i do not have scoliosis, but i have heard docs say that spine does go over a bit, which i know can mean scoliosis, but i think mine might be just through the Arthritis in neck which they say can cause all these sort of things. The funny part of it is i never had tinnitus until the bad spell of dizziness went away, then i had the tinnitus. Mind you my head still goes funny if i get up or move to quick, so i really do not know, docs just say things at times i feel to pacify you. Keep well.

Hi Judi

The meds i am on i have been on for a long time, without having tinnitus. As i mentioned to Angela, i never had tinnitus until the bad spell of dizzines went, then the tinnitus came, drives me mad at times, then it will go away for a couple of days, then come back again. They state it is because of the neck, but i know i have Arthritis in jaw, which gives me all sorts facial pain, as well as head pain. I just give up some times. But try and keep smiling, not easy at times, like the past few days, bad with shoulder and neck. Keep well.

I mite have that done one day...eeeek, scares me that does.... anyway, neck pain can cause all sorts of horrible pain...ear aches, base of head gives terrilbe headaches, I can have a stifff neck and I can barely hold my head up sometimes....I have a neck brace, which can help, but then also cause other pains due to compensation.......I alos then get terrrilbe shoulder pain... due to neck... Neck pain makes me Miseerable...
