Subject: Is tingling feelings all over part of arthritis?

Sometimes i feel puffy and can feel a tingling sensation especially in my legs and hands and feet I am new to all this and not sure if i am just being paranoid, I also often feel as though i have a flu virus coming on then it goes again. Or am i just trying to put everything down to my recently diagnosed state??

Thanks Val i am presuming it is oa as my doctor was not very informative but seems to fit all the stuff i have read about it. I feel mine is mild compared to some people i have read about. Although i am not that big i am trying to lose a stone to see if it will help and plan to go swimming as much as i can. I am 50 and the doc said i have it in my hip and need a new one but to wait as long as i can. i dont want surgery yet if i can help it.

Hi jenny we all experience this illness slightly differeny wether It be OA or RA. have you been refered to a rheumatologist ? If not please go back to your GP and asked to be refered. It is inportant to get the right treatment in the begining. Take care

Hi Jenny, I get tingling in my hands and feet. Rheumatologist doesn't know what that and all my other symptoms are!! He is sending me for a bone scan as last resort and says if nothing shows he will refer me to pain management clinic. Don't know how they can treat pain if they don't know what is causing it. I am considering a second opinion.

tingling cld be carpal tunnel syndrome of the hands....your rhummie shld know Sandie....but cant he refer u to a Nurologist... I was and they found out I had the severe carpal tunnel in both hands....my toes and feet go numb... and Jenny regards your Hip, If your Rhummy says U need a new one, accept it now, dont wait, the quality of your life in important NOw...they suggest u put it off in some areas due to cost.... Lynne had her done, for her amazing, my m8 has her done a few months back, only just 49, amazing for her..... if your hip is bad enufff, they willreplace it....but u need to tell them U want it...I would not wait till 65 to have it....

thanks every one for the replys feel a lot better knowing someone is listening!
ill take all the advice on board seems to me that arthritis is so common that the docs and specialists just accept it instead of look into it more thouroughly.i suppose it varys in different areas but is there a long waiting list for hip ops?
wish you all well x

Hi jenny I got in within two months of being referred but I get it does hang on which area you live a nd the waiting list. There is another op if you suitable called the birmingham cap which is less invasive than a full hip replacement ask you rheumy about it. Good luck

Hi Lynne me again! I just had a look at Birmingham cap info on the net looks like it is a good option. It seems that the docs like us to struggle on till we are old. But i am beginning to think that i would rather have quality of life. After all I still feel like dancing now but might not feel like it when i am 80!

Hi Jenny it is better, the good thing about it is the recovery time is far less than a full hip replacement. Plus if or when that breaks down you can still have the two hip replacements afterwards. so in effect you've got three chances instead of two.
Plus don't let them put you off about age. I was 45 when I had mine done. I don't have any pain now, I can walk normally (was limping quite bad before). If you feel you need it then keep pressing it home with your rheumy. As we keep saying to all newcomers on here. If you don't make a fuss they will just tell you to come back in six months time no better off. Its hard to challenge them when you are ill but we do have to keep on top of them so to speak. Take care

Hi Sandie.. are you also new to the forum. Let us know the results of your bone scan. Try keeping a list of all your aches and pains, and when it comes on worse eg. In morning, after excercise, we don't always remember to tell the docs everything.
As with my advice to jenny above^ You need to keep pressing it home with your Rheumy or you won.t get very far I'm sad to say.

Good Luck

Hi Jill, before I had chance to see consultant a nurse looked at my hands and said she didn't think it was carpel tunnel. I also have quite big spongy fleshy lumps over both my ankles and they really hurt and stop me from walking far. My wrists have the same lumps and again no one knows what it is!! It really gets you down when no-one seems to know what's wrong. I will keep plodding on. Hope you are having a good day.

Hi Lynn I went to the doc today to ask bout the cap thing he said i prob could not have it done on the nhs. He keeps saying "its just wear and tear" like it is nothing but has referred me to a specialist so i am glad i went back. I asked him how far adcanced it was on the xray he said fair to moderate so i prob have a while to decide.

Hi Jenny unfortuneatly we get that alot, they don't seem to be able often to get their heads around the pain and discomfort and how debilitating it can be in our ordinary lives.
Re the flu feeling, its quite normal to feel poorly on occasions, fatique as well. we all are different with how it affects us. That's why it's so darn hard to get a diagnosis in the beginning. What meds have they started you on?

Hi Lynne the doc has not started me on any meds he makes me feel i am just making a big deal out of it, he has just reffered me thats all but at least its something, all he has said is too excercise and take fish oil and glucosamine and painkillers when i need them. Sounds like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted to me but doing it anyway. I plan on swimming as much as i can guess i should try to stop it progressing and did feel a lot looser last time i had a swim. Been feeling exhausted all week and not interested in doing anyhing.

Swimming is very good excecise for arthritis, but you have to be careful not to over do it. Or it could bring on a flare up. We are all different as to the amount we can do. Take it slow in the begining and build it up . You'll know when you've done too much. Pleased you've got referred. At least your moving forward a little take care

Hi Jenny, some docs r like that ...never feel intimidated...always ask for a referzl no matter what...never let them fob u off by saying well wait a ffew months if same I will refer,..... Tell him U want a referal made immmed...he has to do it...anyway glad u have been refered, they r helpful, and becos they studied the disease, they give us time to expalin what is happeneing, remember they seee so many of us, they do understand the pain we r suffereing, only thing they dont mb realise is How Bad! so its up to u to tell him, keeping u awake, how the pain feeels, and that u cant cope with it anymore.... they listen then..... let us know how u get on...im off to see my back surgeon on 7th aug... but at mo its my left elbow and shoulder again...had shoulder op already! thought the meds helped stop degeneration, in my case, dont seem to have....however, guess i wld be worse iwhtout them....
