Hiya Amelia, Exactly the same happens to me all the time, so much so when i was first diagnosed there was a 4 month delay before i started my meds.I was in agony.
Same with the answerphone to and even that did not allow you to leave a message it just said ring back.
I know our hospital is so understaffed, but it doesnt make things any easier for us does it?
What area are you in?

Hi Angela,
I'm in west midlands, very annoying isn't it espcially when they say they will call back and don't. It took a year for me to get a proper diagnosis and start med's ! Crazy isn't it yet when you go see them they preach that you should be doing this and that. Bit hard when you haven't got the advice from them i feel there is sooo much i don't know about RA but this forum is a godsend for info can't ask my mates as they are all too busy out partying doing normal 25 year old things. How about you what area you from ?

Sorry to hear that girls.. unfortunatly it is a common practice,.. from what you say you are relativly young in your twenties.. (I got it when I was 28) but that was twenty years ago.. then my app kept getting knocked back.. I suspect that was because I had little or no damage to my joints at that time.. but lots of pain and inflamation, they did not seem to take me seriously. I guess I was nieve and just accepted that at first. It was only when I started with more clinical signs, and me being a bit braver with the Rheumy and started to ask lots of question, and challenge them a bit more, did I get the care I needed. Sound like you are going through the same. You really have to bang on how bad you've been.. that's of course if you can get to see them.. Grrrrr

Me too I'm going babana's with the pain, the wait and the not knowing. My appointments keep getting put back too. Interesting what you said lynne. I'm in the early stages too..could be right.
I'm going to try and be more assertive with my rheumy when I see him.

That's happened to me alot in the begining. I got so frustrated in not being able to contact anyone in the rheumatology dept. (nurse, doc etc) That I wrote a letter of complaint to the Hospital. I was a bit worried in case they would not take me seriously, or be angry with me. No they got me in pretty quick to see him. It was a scary thing for me to do and I did worry alot about the letter, but I was in so much pain It was doing my head in

Hiya Amelia,It really hurts me when I hear about kids and young people having this horrible disease.
I dont like having it myself and I am 53,it came on sudden last year, but if either of my daughters who are a bit older than you got it instead of me it would break my heart.
I live in the Norfolk area, I was thinking maybe we had the same Rhummy or something but as everyone seems to have the same problem obviously it is a National one.
It is crazy you are right, and it is good to have this forum where you can have a moan without feeling bad cause half the time like you say people aren't really interested. Or you can get some ideas of what people are trying out, it is a good support system.
Probably speak to you again.
Take Care

Thanks everyone i feel a bit better knowing i'm not on my own with all this as it seems a very common thing. I have had RA since i was 23 i'm 25 now and still feel i have lots to learn and you are right Angela this site is great for advice and learning about it. I feel like they don't take me seriously Lynne but my next appt i shall go armed with a load of questions they might take me serious then.
You all take care
