Hi everyone, can a newbie ask a question please? Have any of you been given a medical prescription for a personal trainer at the gym? I was really looking forward to starting, and had the first half hour, no problem. Then last week my trainer booked me for a whole hour. It was a bit exhausting, but not too bad, and I actually enjoyed it. When I got home though, I had a temp. of over 102 degrees, and 'flu like symptoms. Since then the temp. has gone down, but my arthritis has flared up worse than it has ever been before. The pain has been terrible. I have another gym session booked for tomorrow pm, but don't know whether to go or not.

That's good advice from Val.. we are all different with regards to how much we can do.. it is very important you don't do too much as it can cause a flare up, which sound like what has happened to you. Easy does it at first till you can find out what your limit. Please do inform your trainer re what the side effects were..

Thank you both for the advice I will do as you say. This has been a nightmare, and I don't want it to happen again.

Jill, it's not completely free. I thought it was going to be, but you have to join the gym to use it, and that was almost £50 for 10 weeks. But I did it because my lovely doc said to do it. And I enjoy it. Ask, girls, see if you can get one too.

Quite often your GP has only the basic knowledge of Arthritis.. they only get a little training on each illness.. so he may not be aware how exercise affects you.. how about asking the gym for an extension to your ten weeks because your illness precludes you from attending some of the sessions.. As it was prescribed for you.. Never know girl .. always worth trying

I rang the surgery this morning as I am still feeling poorly and have a very busy week ahead. One of the docs rang me back and said I've probably got a seasonal flu, they don't test for swine 'flu any more, and to cancel all appointments for the week until I feel better. So I've done that, but I'm still not very clear what has happened here - whether it's just the arthritis, or a coincidental mixture of that and 'flu. Just hope to get better soon. Thanks everyone for your advice. I will go back to the gym on Thursday if I am well enough. By the way, I like the forum.

Thanks Jaen. Normally forums automatically tell you if there are two the same name, but it did not indicate anything. Sorry for any confusion and thanks for being the one to change the spelling.
