Could be anything I should wait for the tests diagnosis can be years rather than weeks for arthritic diseases

Lots of other illnesses mimic it

Could be too much sun living in Manchester I doubt it :-)

it doenst take so many years Liv, the way u describe your pain and swollen parts sounds similar, but like The Blogger says, could be due to a lot of things, however, sounds like Arthritis to me... also waiting Just a month to see a Specialist is rather good waiting time...here it can be several months! annoying I know.... maybe in the meantime Liv, U cld ask your GP for Anti inflamatories, to help the inflamation that u speak of...

take care and let us k now how u r doing and what the diagnosis is... also we help each other in here, dont stay away, we all need to support one another

Hi Liv I used to live in sunny Wigan .. you have a rheumatoid specialist hospital just up the road called Wrightington hospital ask to be referred there rather than W.R.A.E Infirmary. They tell you quite quickly if you've got it or not. As the others say many illnesses can mimic RA in the early stages.

Subject: Re: HELP

RA ( Rheumatiod Arthritis) often starts in your hands and feet with swelling, aches and pains. The blood test etc that they do will not tell you specifically that you have RA only that you had certain indications that you may have it. As we said before many illnesses mimic RA. It may be some time before you are confirmed, but in the meantime the specialist will be able to give you some form of medication that will alleviate the symptoms.

Don't loose heart, be sure to tell the doc every thing that hurts, aches, swells etc, is it worse after doing exercise, walking, lifting ,writing. the more info he has the clearer your diagnosis.

Good luck.

Liv, you have my sympathies. I could have been telling the same story 2.5 years ago just after my daughter was born. I don't feel that there's a lot I can say except that I understand. My daughter is growing up knowing that Mummy can't do things like play football and she goes to her dad. It breaks my heart yet my daughter has taken it in her stride and has turned out to be a very caring little girl. I really hope that you can get a diagnosis soon and find a good treatment. In the meantime you might want to ask your GP about Lodine SR which is a slow release anti-inflammatory that you take once a day. In short it means that I'm able to get out of bed to see to my daughter during the many trips to her room at night. I don't have to try and take a dose in the middle of the night this way. Good luck. xx

Hi LIv, Jills right we are all different. I was told by my Rhumy to do as much exercise as your illness allows without doing too much. What constitutes too much you will have to find out yourself by doing it. Swimming is a fantastic way to exercise because your not putting too much strain on your joints. Give it a go but don't get carried away or you'll aggravate your condition. You little one will enjoy it too.

If you do get a diagnosis, keep a record of all the specialist , doctors, nurses, physio's etc you see.. there is a reason for this. If your unable to get out of bed without help as you say... you may be able to claim Disability Living Allowance.. aka DLA. A diagnosis will help with the claim

If you want more info on this we can help

Hi Liv, I have not been diagnosed yet and it took me 4 months to get a consultation and I have just had another after 5 months. I also have swelling on my feet, actually on the ankles and going all the way round. Like you my hands and wrists are affected, plus shoulders. As you say it very hard to get going in the morning. Your are in a difficult situation having such a young baby, I am lucky my kids are now grown up, but I am still trying to work full time and it's pretty hard at times. I was on diclofenic and it did nothing. They tried a few more which were not much better, now on arcoxia and amitriptyline which which help a little, but not great, still have lots of pain. Thanks to speaking with others on here I have been more assertive with medical people and would advise you to be the same. If you are too quiet some of them won't do all they can. As the others say, leave the medics in no doubt the medication is not helping. Unfortunately I have found out like everyone else it takes time to get sorted, and I am still waiting. This is a good place to come and share your frustrations. It's comforting to know we are not alone and others on this site care. Have a good weekend and chin up, you will get there.

Hi Sandie

You r so right about being assertive...also Sandie, when u go on the other Meds, like DMARDS...enbrel Methretxate and the like...u will have a Bilogics nurse, and the waiting times can be haleved, becos she will be able to get u in to see her in clinic and also the rhummy....we seem to get more care when we r on the Toxic type meds...By the way, im no arcoxia, meant to be one of the best Anti inflams...but that alone wont help with your pain.... often we hear that many ppl r scared to go on mTX and enbrel etc as they think the risks are too great, but I beleive NOt going on them is far far worse....let us know how u get on
