Subject: Stress fractures
I have RA and have suffered 2 stress fractures in my foot and right leg over the past 2 years. Think I may now have yet another in my left leg. Have had a DEXA scan and they say I am not suffering from osteoporosis. I am now beginning to suspect it may be related to my medication - Methotrexate and Humira. Has anyone else suffered similarly?

Hi Jane, I have had RA for around 19 years now and I suffered a stress fracture in my shin back in December and it was agony. I didn't know what was causing the pain, I was sent for an x-ray and nothing showed so I had to use crutches to get around, I got a MRI scan a couple of months later and when the results came back I got a phone call with an appointment to see the hospital a few days later, by then it was healing but I was told I now need an ankle replacement or it will likely happen again within a year. I have had problems with both my ankles for at least 5 years but didn't think it was bad enough for a replacement. I was asked if I had had a lot of steroids, I have had lots of injections but not oral so they well can cause it although the arthritis itself can damage the joints. Are your ankles affected by the RA?
