Subject: E.S.R. ON THE RISE AGAIN
Hello everyone, Can anyone explain to me why my esr is still rising when I am on sulfasalizine, and it feels like it is working.(been on it for over 3 months now).
My joints are feeling loads better but my esr is still going higher and higher last blood test it was 54, two weeks later its 75. Also within the three months my cholesterol has risen from 6.5 to 7.4. It is really scaring me.

No no alcohol, dont smoke either,I stopped both in 2007 after finding out I had high cholesterol then. I did manage to get it down without medication, but now its back, and thats what I dont understand,as I have never gone back to the lifestyle I had. Maybe I should bugger it lol.

I had this a couple of times but never did find out why.I felt better and the consultant said my ESR was showing as a major flare up! I dont drink or smoke either...much.

Thanks for your reply Sam,It seems this desease has got a mind of its own, I dont think I will ever get my head around it.
To suddenly be inflicted with this at 53 has turned my world upside down.
I do understand how you must be feeling about your upcoming op, I really feel for you.
My sister had her hip done, and she has never looked back, so I am sure you will feel like a new women soon.

Hi Angela Blimey I cannot beleive its been 3 months since u started your new meds!... wish i cld help u about the ESR, but in all honesty, this frigging disease confuses me!...My rhummy told me(nicely tho) that he cant do any more for me, up to the surgeons from now!...he told me the REITERS that I have, has a mind of its own, and that my pain has its one lifecycle, thas how he described it all to me, but said he cant do anymore, up to the meds and specialists!...took me ages to get over that statement from him, I felt soooo alone, and frightened, just like the guys that are Now being diagnosed recently... anyway, I hope u geet this ESR sorted, but my m8 who has R.A. also has rising ESR, mine goes up and down a bit, and goes up high in a flare up!...Angela r u taking enbrel too? cant remember sorry sweetie, If u are not, can u ask rhummmy for that too...will make a massive difference Jillx

Hi Jill, Nice to hear from you again.
When I read your stuff it helps to stop me feeling so sorry for myself, for a time anyway. Compared to you my condition is peanuts.
You shouldnt feel alone I am sure you have a fan club on this site, I am one of them anyway lol. You do make me giggle when you go on the attack. Go Girl!!
No I dont take embrel, only sulfa. My Rhummy said when he sees me next he wants to put me on mex as well, but I will mention embrel to him.
Do you know if this constant rise in ESR means that the RA is still causing me damage?
I dont feel half like I did before the sulfa. although I am very aware that it is lurking about in my joints,maybe the sulfa is keeping it supressed?? This is what I mean about trying to gey my head around this condition.

Hi Angela, aww u say the nicest things to me. I wouldnt like to say that having a raised ESR is causing u damage, but a high ESR indicates Inflamation, Not sure tho if evrytime Inflamation does infact cause damage, Blogger Might know, LOL he knows everything, I hope not tho Angela, becos Im sure we wld all be in wheelchairs! maybe when the Inflamation hits a bad high, mb then and only then that the joints do get attacked...your right about the meds, they do suppress, doesnt stop attacks completely tho... My disc have gone again in my spine and ive been on MTX over 2 years, and Enbrel a year, plus still got synovial fluid damage to my feet...oh well Imagine what we wld be like if we didnt have those meds? Pleade dont be put off with what I said above, we r all different, Plus I have Reiters, which also eats away soft tissue etc...i.e. discs etc... anyway U take care

Hi Jill just back from YORK lovely fun city My knowledge is that the inflammation over a period of time does the damage dont know how long thats the Rheumys' job hence the steroid quick clear up and DMARD second line drug regime. I feel insecure now you have said I know everything Jill I am just trying to be helpful. This website is for chatter not diagnosis only a registered doctor can do that.

hiya well no was a bit upset the other nite as hubby had to cut off my ring but wedding ring still ok at moment. Although still in pain i actually slept last night for 4 hours so was well chuffed and felt happier today. still got sausage fingers and have noticed they are really bobbly in places think ive got a nodule on the wrist which is painful but hey ive been smiling today so hope it continues to improve. thanks for asking girls xx

glad u got bit of sleep. the only good thing about arther is my ring fitts now used to fall off fingers so something good comes,when u least expect it.have good day :-)
