Subject: Biologics

Hi everyone,
Saw the rheumy doc last week, he has said that heās going to put me on biologics but didnt state which one, I have my appointment tomorrow (I canāt wait!)
So I was just wondering what is the most common biologic to be put on first?
I had to have a good few tubes of blood taken last week and a chest X-ray if this makes any difference...
regardless Ive heard good things about them so just so excited to hopefully feel better :)

hi Bekki ,

I am on my 5th now , things change & the consultants have the ones the like & it depends on NICE rulings , but should be a anti-TNF like enbrel

the bloods & x-rays are standard , try to think positive about , some of them you read on the internet have bad stories like Rituxamab but the people on here done very well on it , if you read up stick to the main charities websites like in the link section above

Hi Bekki, Pleased to hear you will be getting onto something now that should help you. I started on enbrel but unfortunately it didn't help me and I am now on rituximab, i have been on it for around 5 years now and get the infusions every 6-9 months. It has really helped me. Sometimes we have to try one or two to get the one that is most effective, I know they hope to know which ones will work first time without having go through taking it and it not working and then going on another. They may even ask you which one you would prefer or theymay decide so you could read up on a few. With a lot of them like enbrel you inject once a week and some you go into the day ward for a few hours or more to get the infusion. Good luck with whatever one you go on. x

I don't think I was very clear on saying they hope to know which one will work first time. I should have said they would like to know first time as it would help the patient and also save money but not sure if they have that knowledge yet.

Bekki , gl with it , some do well on it , it is Enbrel , I had problems with a injection site reaction but was a shame as it started to work pretty quick

the reaction was nothing to do with the drug , but the preservatives they use with the pen injections

Just seen this. I started enbrel 2012. At my 12 week follow up appointment was in remission and still am. No side effects, no pain relief required. Fingers crossed itās working its magic for you.
