Subject: My mum has arthritis...help?

Heya, I'm SJ and I'm 16.

My mum has had arthritis for quite some years now...but she's never really done much about it, she lives with it and hardly ever complains. Because she never complains about it I didn't even realise that she's constantly in pain. I want to do as much as I can for her because she's only in her early 50s. I was wondering, as people of more experience, if you could recommend some medication for her. Preferably some sort of natural remedy that just eases pain a little...i know there's no cure for this sort of thing. She just keeps saying stupid things like 'i hate having to take those huge horse pills'. There's so much information on arthritis out there, I just have no clue where to start. It aggravates me that she does hardly anything about it. The problem is is that she can't really exercise because she injured something in her hip a few years back. Any advice would be very welcome.

Eternally grateful,

SJ

oh, also I forgot. It's osteoarthritis and it mainly affects her hand joints and arm joints, as far as I know.

Hi SJ

Best thing your Mum can do is visit her GP,Im thinking tho that her pain must be under some sort of control, becos the pain is unbearable, and u wld have known by now becoz its a difficult thing to hide...SJ we cant reccomend any meds really...we are all on different meds, some very Toxic, and others less, thats Y your Mum needs to see a Rhumatologist, and also remember, or let her know, that once shes seen her GP, he will refer to a specialist, but this can sometimes take a few months as waiting lists are so long, so its in your mums best interests that she sees her GP ASAP... also to mb have xrays and MRI scans....Let us know how she gets on, and let her know this Forum exisits, mb she can come talk to us...we dont bite LOl take care

Your mum I lucky to have a caring, concerned daughter like you. All the advice above is correct, she needs to see a doctor ASAP. The sooner the treatment the less damage will be caused, the fitter your mum and will be, with less damaged caused in the future. Also don't forget to look after yourself in all this. You need TLC TOO.. Help your mum when you ca,n but also don't forget to look after your needs too.. talk with a friend about your concerns or talk to us here.

SJ

Can we establish whether your mum is self diagnosed or has she been diagnosed with some form of arthritis by a General Practioner (Doctor or G.P.) We can then offer further advise. Blogger now recovered enough from shoulder pains to Blog Team 1 if you are watching
