Subject: Active v non active inflammation
Hi everyone, I'm after advice about the difference between active and non active inflammation in joints. I have inflammatory arthritis and am in mtx, sulf, acroxia and pred. I've just had an ultrasound where they said I had inflammation in joints but it was non active. I hoping for help with a definative explanation between the two. Thank you.

Hi Colin, Thank you for replying. I've been on 10 - 15mg for just over 3 years now. CRP & ESR have always been low, even when I flare. Apparently it can happen to about 20% of people with IA. I'm just wondering if there is something going on as well ie Lupus etc. Like my poor brain doesn't get confused enough lol.

Hi Fi, I'm not sure what they mean either. I would have thought if you had inflammation in joints then that could be damaging and therefore classed as active. You should speak to your rheumy nurse and ask them to explain it better to you.

I meant to say Fi, if your CRP and ESR is low then that would suggest that your inflammation is low.
