Subject: IP Thumb Fusion Angle
I have to have a IP Joint Thumb Fusion due to OS in the joint, as a youngish involved in sports still I wish to get the right angle done. Having done much reading on the subject (not too much about on angles) it seems the options are 0-30 degrees. I was wondering what angle did anyone have done on here who had a thumb fusion and afterwards did it cause problems for you, for example even texting etc and holding things or unscrewing lids? Many Thanks

Hi, have you had surgery done on your thumb‽ I'm going under the knife next week and would like some feedback on other peoples experiences. What degree is your thumb joint fused at‽ Thanks.

Hi Shirley, Sorry for not getting back, this didn't notify me. I haven't had it done still, as I couldn't take the time off work (as drive for job), am waiting until Winter time when less work about. Have you had it done? Having read lots about it, it seems 15 - 25 degrees is best, I purchased a protractor off ebay to give an idea.

John, if its at the base of your thumb there is a nateral angle , the joint at your wrist would cause alot more mobility problems I have had two fusions in my ankles (keels) which is three joints each & recovery was about six months , need several other joints fused & replaced starting with both knees & hip , you will feel the benifits afterwards , & you can always get a car adapted if needed
