Subject: New biological injections for RA

I,ve had RA for over 20yrs and have tried most of the main DMARD drugs like methotrexate etc with varying results. Now on the self injections, which are working beautifully. Only thing is at the site of the injection I get a large red welt the size of the palm of your hand. ( it dissapears after a few days.) Does anyone know of anything that can reduce the soreness of this. I would be most greatfull

Hello, I found that I had this for the first few months - like a massive red, angry and often intensely itchy insect bite? It has got better over time - well months to be honest. I would say the first 6 months were the worst and it gradually decreased and then was nothing but a red spot for a couple of hours. You are not the only one, think this is sadly a common side effect.

Hi Lynne again Lol there is a gal on here that had that prob, cant remember her name, sorry, but she reported it to her nurse at the hosp, and I think they changed her Meds to something else, but short of looking thru all the posts, i cant remember, hopefully she will c this message and reply to u..... I use the same med, When I inject, not only does it really hurt me But its painful when the fluid goes into the site, I dread taking my injections, altho only weekly, the discomfort only lasts for a few mins, and I do allow the injection to cool down for half hour b4 injecting, but its painful but ok after, told my nurse and she said Infusion is something that cld be offered to me, but I dont fancy that to be honest, its an all day infusion

good luck tho

Hi Ladies
Thanks for that. Been on enbrel for over three years. It used to be ok when I used the old system of filling the syringes myself from the vial, but since they changed me over to the pre-filled syringes they became painful to inject and as I said I now get a large red welt. I did ring thew pharmacist and he told me it was to do with the preservative they had recently added to the pre-filled syringe. I was also offered another infusion like your self. didn't fancy it either. My specialist did say I can return to the old method of filling the syringes myself, but because the vials only come in 25mg I would have to inject twice a week. Am considering that option.
Take care
Lynne
