Subject: PIP Assessment

Hi everyone, I havent posted for a long time but I do 'lurk' and read your posts.
Like a lot of people I have had my PIP benefit re-assessed and last Friday had the assessment done by a member of Atos.
Just want to let everyone know to be careful when going for your assessment - always get a copy of the assessment,it is your right to ask for it, the phone number is on your original letter to be assessed.

But before you go for your assessment have a look at the Self Assessment for PIP - you answer the questions and then you will get your scores. It shows you what you need to qualify for PIP. I wish I had looked at this before going for my assessment because a lot of things I have said are more than likely going to cause my allowance to be stopped. Which is what the government have told the assessors to do - cut down the claims.
Not only that but when I read my assessment forms I was surprised to see that not everything was exactly as I had said!!!!! I was put down as being an xbox addict - what I said was that I used to like to go on my xbox and was addicted to a certain game but I didnt go on it so often as my hands were painful. Why the important bit was missed off I dont know. The report on my feet was a bit strange because I didnt remember her doing my feet at all, if she had done I would have screamed out if she had tried to turn my ankles, but now according to the report it says my ankles are normal!!! Plus my right and left scores were identical which is strange as I had a badly sprained ankle a few weeks ago and its still sore!!! I just want people to be warned before they go for their assessments not to cheat but what to be aware of, dont just answer what they say you must add things yourself if you dont they leave it off, if they dont ask make sure you tell them everything.
The link is
https://www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/personal-independence-payment-pip... Then click on take the PIP test. This way you can be forearmed for your assessment. Good Luck I hope the link works if not just type in PIP test you will find it.

Just got my results from PIP assessment, they have cut it in half, and taken my mobility off me. My own fault because I didnt answer as if it was my worst day, but then again the assessor would have known. I was having quite a good day, still a lot of pain but not as bad. To be honest I expected them to stop it completely with the government cuts but at least half is better than none. I hope other claimants are luckier.

Julie, sorry to hear your money has been cut. You should appeal.
The cuts are so hard on everyone. When people are unwell it is a sad shame that they are being targeted.
I hope you appeal and your money is reinstated.

thanks Lois, I am just grateful I got 55 a week, so many people are going to lose it which is disgusting. One thing I did notice is that they have given me this until 2027, not just for the 3 years as before, so maybe its better in a way. If my drugs stop working and I get worse I will re-apply. If only I had done the online self assessment test first I would probably have got more but then again I would have felt as if I was cheating, I know its not but thats how it feels when I am managing to live with the problems RA causes. Hope you are well, we havent spoken for a long time.

I know what you are saying but just because you manage doesn't make it right that your benefits should be cut. I just do not know how they justify it all. You have a great attitude to it all I have to say. I guess at least you know you won't be badgered again for a good few years,

I am not too bad like you I manage my pain most of the time. I know plenty are a lost worse than me.

Take care.

hi julie , I would appeal , go to CAB for advice & they will help you throught the appeal

which have they given you , they dont do the lower care on PIP so is it the middle rate for care , if so someone can get carers allowances , think the mobilty is 20 meters down from 50 meters , in reality its still nothing ,

you can still do the forms again & go for mobilty at some point in the future if you dont appeal

Hi Colin, it is the middle rate and I have lost my mobility altogether. I did think of carers allowance but thought you had to have an income of less than 110 a week, Dave has state pension and small works pension so dont think we qualify. Do I lose my blue badge aswell because I lost my mobility, the assessor said I could walk between 50 and up to 200 metres, Im not sure that I can and walking always hurts. I am looking into appealing but dont hold out much hope.

How are you and your family these days? I am still on Toc but fortnightly injection now, cant grumble I am at least managing my life easier than before, dont want to go back there again.

hi Julie , it wont matter , if you get the part of PIP/DLA which you do then you can claim carers allowance , you could check with CAB
for advice & they would have the forms to fill in

as for the Blue Badge , you can still apply for one but need the backing of your GP

Hi Julie
I am new to this forum but just seen your discussion - even if your husband gets state pension he can still claim carers allowance and then this in turn enables premiums to be paid with housing benefit for help with council tax etc., if you feel the PIP award is incorrect it is always worth appealing as so many are turned around so please consider

Hi Julie, I'm new to the forum. I had my PIP assessment last week and it was a horrible experience.
I'm in Manchester and for my first appointment they wanted me to get to Liverpool for 9am. Obviously i changed it. From the minute you get there every movement and word is monitored, even the receptionist was horrible. I'm waiting for my results but I'm not hopeful

Firstly good luck
From my experience (2 weeks ago) be aware that from the moment you arrive they are watching. They asked me to go upstairs, say no, the actual assessment was awful for me, the woman wouldn't let me expand on answers make sure you get your point across. When they ask you to do some movements for them only do what does not cause any discomfort just say I can't do that.
Do your assessment on your worst day ever

I got my report today, they said I had no mobility issues not 1 point. Not sure how they came to this conclusion so I'm definitely appealing.

That's dreadful Karen, make sure you do appeal and get any help you can with it. Perhaps if the people that are making these decisions had to live a day in our shoes they would have a better idea. x

The best is they've said from observations I have an issue with my left knee, what a joke it's my right knee I've been told I need a replacement for and my right knee that gives way. Utter joke
