Subject: Rheumatoid Arthritis

Hi, I'm 27 and am fairly sure that I have RA. I woke one morning about 2 months ago with pain in all my joints. This lasted for about a day and ever since I have been getting fairly serious pain in various joints around my body. It might be in my knee today and my shoulder tomorrow. I have been taking Difene for these pains. I also had uveitis (eye infection) about 3 weeks ago. My GP has conducted blood tests and I have high blood inflammation markers and am slightly anaemic. She is sending me to a rheumatologist but I haven't gone yet. Has anyone here experienced these symptions? Does this sound like RA? Has anyone gotten it at an age similar to me and how has it progressed for you? I'm fairly worried that if I have it now what is it going to be like in 20 - 30 years.

hi shaun
i started with pain in my feet only but your gp will get you sorted out if you have RA.i was 31 when i got it and went through the same worries as you.i found that reading all about it helps me understand what my body is going through.i was an outdoor person with hobbies like doing motorcross/cycling/fishing and i can still do those things but just small amounts.it does help talking to other people and knowing how they cope.keep your chin up pal.

Hi Shaun

mine started at 26, we are all different, yours might go away if u arnt diadnosed with R.A., fingers crossed...but dont worrry yet about 2o, 30 years time, u must take one day at a time, or u will get depressed, some people have flare ups, but cope, others have flare ups and dont, depends how severe the attack is, Make sure u get on the correct Meds if it turns out that u do have R.A. the sooner u go on the DMARDS(mb google that) soz too long for me to type, got wrist pain today(they are Immnue suppressants, and help dampen down the progress and protect the joints...

let us know how u get on

stay Positive

Thanks for your replies Phil and J. I started experiencing pain in my other eye and was diagnosed with Uveitis in both eyes yesterday. I am now on hourly drops and the opthamologist wants me to go to a clinic as "it is fairly unusual to have it in both eyes". How painful were the pains for you when it started in your feet Phil? I seem to be getting the pains in random places, today it is in my left knee. I am expecting it to go away in a day or two but it will then probably come back in another random joint not necessarily my right knee so there doesn't seem to be uniformity to it.

I was diagnosed last year (age 27), suffering with pains in my feet for months. Since then it has spread to my hands and most recently my knees.
You seem to be having problems in a few areas from the start, I suppose we are all different.
I feel for you and hope you get better soon.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I had a very bad cold last week and have since been reading about the symptoms of RA and 'flu like symptoms' is one of them. I now think that this wasn't a bad cold after all. I also have a throat infection now to add to everything else. I have an appointment with the rheumatologist this week and I am desperately hoping I get some good news. From the reading I've been doing there are a lot of people suffering but is there anyone who has gotten it and moved on without much pain?

Hi shaun, i'm 25 and have had RA for 3 years now although it took doctors a year to give me the diagonsis !
It started for me when i had Pleursy again due to having a crap doctor i had pleursy for 9 weeks so when i finally got over that, thats when the aches and pains started it started in my feet and found it a real struggle to do day to day stuff. Then i got it in various other place's shoulders and my fingers.
I have been on Methat8 ever since and to be honest it took me a long time to adjust to taking the med's but taking them has made me feel so much better so much so that i am currently in remission and haven't had no problems in over 3 months.
I often feel resentful for having RA esp being young but i have finally found a really good consultant and am really hopeful for the future.

Good luck with your appt and hope you get some good news.
