Subject: Nothing To With Arthritis In The Slightest
Hello, Could anyone recommend a plant / shrub to be planted in a South facing garden, along side a 6ft fence. It has to be fast growing and preferably flowering and will grow over 6ft. I have considered mock orange but I am not a gardener and I need to screen off an area quickly. Thanks in advance.

Thank you Lois. I have recently downsized to a small cottage with a court yard garden. The left hand side fence, belongs to the adjoining property, that apparently is let out in the summer as a holiday cottage. As I said in my initial post , I am no gardener & any advice is much appreciated. I think your suggestion of Forsythia is the one I will opt for , yellow is a cheery color. Many thanks.

Forsythia is over by May though and not particularly attractive for the rest of the year. If you want summer colour, try some climbing roses. Perfect for a cottage.

I was thinking again if you want fence coverage you could use Wisteria honeysuckle also clematis. Passion flower is a lovely fence cover gorgeous flowers all summer and then green fruits that turn bright orange in the autumn. Hope this helps.

Lois & Sabrine Thanks again for the suggestions. I do need height and fence coverage. Could I grow tall rose shrubs and then plant clematis with them , to entwine through the plants ? Or am I getting out of my depth and a little too Alan Titmarsh ? Hope people don't mind me seeking garden tips on this forum !

Hi there, I have clematis on the fence and plants in front it looks very pretty all summer. Clematis have many different types read the label or ask your garden centre for a fast growing one. You could buy a rambling rose and train it to grow up the fence. The best way to learn about gardening is to go with your ideas. Nothing is right or wrong really just personal taste. I am going now as I love gardening and I will go on and on. Take care and feel free to come back for any other suggestions.
