Subject: reason for stopping methotrexate
Hi I was diagnosed with RA in January and was put onto Metotrexate, I started on 10mg, then 12.5mg and finally 2 weeks at 15mg. I went to renew my prescription and can't due to the prescription stopping. No one has contacted me and i phoned the doctors. I spoke to the receptioninst who was as helpful as she could be but could offer no reson for this. I'm unable to speak to a doctor on this until next tuesday, this is when i go in to give my fortnightly bloods. not sure what to do or what is going on. Any help advice is appreciated

Hi Wardy, I do not understand why your prescription has stopped without any prior discussion. Why is your GP making you wait? I would demand that a GP telephoned you and explained what is going on. Do you have a Consultant at the hospital or a Rhuemy nurse you can call. You certainly are not receiving the treatment you should be. Once you start the meds it should not just stop. I hope you get it all sorted out soon.

hi , some times methotrexate can cause raised liver inflammation (ALT) & maybe the reason but you need to talk to your surgery or rheumy nurse folic acid helps with most the side effects from Methotrexate & the dose varries , I take 5mg six days a week on 25mg MTX , when increasing MTX it can cause problems with ALT results , short term its nothing to worry about but over a long period raised inflammation can cause damage to your liver & why they do regular blood test
