Subject: Help finding a RA specialist

Hello,
My Mum has severe RA and is not getting good enough care where she is. I live in Canada and am trying to find some receommendations for RA specialists in the UK that could at least offer a second opinion on her existing treatment as she is now in constant pain and her quality of life has lessened considerably. If anyone knows/ could recommend someone I would be very grateful. My mum lives in lincolnshire, but we could drive her wherever if needed. Many thanks.

It's not as easy as that, Jules. If she is going privately, you could google specialists that have a private practice. It's harder if you are going via the NHS as the GP will have to do the referral. I would look for someone attached to a large teaching hospital that does research. They are more likely to be clued up to latest practice and also be very experienced. You can then go to her GP to ask for a referral and although, in theory, you can go to which ever hospital you want, some GPs can be stubborn about referring out of her area. Otherwise, you can see if they have a private practice and contact them direct. I'm sorry I can't recommend my consultant, who is good but may not be the right person for your mother. Best of luck.
