Subject: arthritis footwear

Hi everyone, I've had osteoarthritis in one of my legs (the result of a car accident when I was 24) for several years now. I also love shoes, and I am currently writing a blog on how I deal with having a restricted footwear choice and trying to be young(ish) and fashionable in London. I know it won't be to everyone's taste, but I try on a lot of shoes and review them, so maybe people might find it useful. I am not paid to do this, or promoting any brand or company. I just want other people to benefit from my years of experience/frustration/shoe-joy. If it sounds like the sort of thing you might find useful or at least diverting, you can check it out here: https://shoeslifeblog.wordpress.com/
thanks,
Gem

What a fab blog Gem :-) You have put a lot of hard work into that with lots of useful info. Shoes are sooooooo tricky to find for those of us with arthritis problems and you have managed to find some lovely looking shoes :-) Thank you for posting xx

Very interesting read. Shoes are a real art when you have painful feet. People do not realise just how much effort we have to make in a every day purchase. Well done Gem.

Thank you so much for your positive comments! I really hope I can recommend some great shoes. It seems so frivolous with everything else one has to deal with (medication, transportation, etc), but having some choice in how I look is really liberating. I'll try to post at least once a week!

Not at all frivolous our appearance is still so important to us. When we are invited to any occasions we still need to feel good with how we look. I will look forward to your posts.
Well done and lovely to have you on the forum. x

It's very nice to be here, and if anyone has anything they want me to research (for example, I'm going to do a post on shoes for going to weddings soon as that strikes fear into my very core every time... I can't be the only one) please let me know and I'll do what I can.

Hi Gem

What a great blog! I was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis 14 years ago and apart from one permanent sausage digit and the occasional flare elsewhere, I'd been really lucky. Until now :-(
3 sausage digits, arch problems, and now what looks like a deformed joint..... Walking has become a nightmare, I dread putting on shoes now.

Your blog has really cheered me up today - lying on the sofa trying to decide what I can wear for work tomorrow - you've given me hope and inspiration!

Have you ever come across Chie Mihara shoes ? They look great - they are expensive but look amazing.

Thanks again and keep blogging!

Oh wow, I hadn't heard of Chie Mihara shoes, but I am so glad you told me about them. They are beautiful! I think I am going to have to save up for a pair, and if I do get some I will definitely write about them!

I have an ongoing work-in-progress post on "smart shoes" and arthritis. I'm quite lucky as my office is quite casual, but I know it's not the case for everyone. It is so hard to find good (beautiful) smart shoes though, but Chie Mihara are definitely in that category.

I'll be writing a post on lace-up shoes this week, they tend to be what get me through the spring.

Thanks so much for all the positive comments, I really appreciate it.
