Subject: Ankle osteoarthritis

I have had osteoarthritis of my ankle for a few years now but in my 11th year since my accident it is now severe I have been told that fusion is the only thing available to me on the good old nhs but I feel I'm to young to have fusion & would like to know more about either ankle replacement or any other pain killing opportunity instead of what I feel is a last resort in fusion can anybody please help me

I guess you've already been there Jenni, I've arthritis big toe right foot (accident caused), and ankle arthritis right ankle, but with me orthotics just about keep me out of further trouble, plus shoes, or even a boot with a laced up firm bridge support. I've always pain there, more often than not I have to adjust the way I walk, never walk on uneven ground, even riding a bike puts pressure on the joint, so I push it up every hill, even slight ones, a combination of walking and riding, have had injections of hyluronic acid, they helped temporarily, same as cortisone, but several were really painful. When I finally go for fusion I'll be screaming with pain first, not ready for that yet, best of, barry

hi Jenni
there is the main ankle joint & the lower ankle joints they can fuse , sometimes they will do test to check which joint needs fusing/replacing

I have had both ankle/keel fused & at some point need the main joint fused , there are problems doing replacement joints & dont last very long sometimes & they can only replace the main joint

other options may include having a brace made but leave it to long & you can do alot of damage to the joint & to the circulation around the ankle causing alcers & painful veins , dont know your age but I would recommend you having it done , recovery is 6 months , 6 weeks non weight bearing & then in a air boot , the only joint they can replace is the main ankle joint but talk to your doctors as they should know what is the best option for you

My heel area was constantly in pain. I figured if I try this produce maybe my feet would be happier. So I ordered and expected the item to take its usual 2-4 weeks, because I live in Hawaii. To my surprise, not only was shipping free, the item was at my home on the promised dated. Since I have worn my new shoes, my heels are no longer in pain! I needed orthofeet shoes
