Subject: Triple ankle fusion

Hi all has any of you had a triple ankle fusion. I had mine on the 5feb. And wanted to know What was the outcome. I'm in a plaster cast for a few more weeks. Having had the stitches removed a week ago. No pain as such. But it feels as if I have bad sun burn inside the foot.

hi Suzanne

had both done , right in 2001 & left in 2009 , dont have alot of movement in either anjke & will need them fused at some point ,

takes 6 months to get over it , first 6 weeks without putting weight on it is the hardest but will become alot easier when you have a airboot on , will take a few weeks to put full weight through it but it is well worth having the opperation done

Hi Colin. Thank you for your reply. I'm finding it so hard as I have athritis in the other foot aswell. I'm just about getting around at home on a gutter frame. They also crossed the tendons over . I think that's where most of the burning feeling is coming from. Will I still need the frame when I have the air boot Colin? I'm pleased your op went well.

I have used elbow crutches for nearly 20 years , I would ask for a pair , it makes it alot easier to get around , will be several weeks before you can put full weight through your foot

not sure about the tendons , & dont know how good your main ankle joint is , mine had little movement & got poor circulation in my left foot & had ulcers before having the opp done , its one thing to look out for , I use a circulation booster to help & being a TENS/mc helps with pain as well

as for driving , after three months I was back driving but had automatic which helps alot ,

Hi Colin. I'm sorry to say, I'm unable to use crutches. I have had both knees replaced and an elbow. I'm waiting for the other elbow to be replaced. I'm unable to put and weight on it. I'm falling apart lol. But my doctor wanted the ankle done first. I can't win. I gave up my car 3 years ago due to the elbows being worn out.I just hope. That one day. I'll have some sort of normal life. Thank you Colin, You have been a good help. I know what to expect now. .. Sue
