Yes, you've got a point there Susan, if you want it or don't want it you'll find it on the web somewhere, so we all have to be that little bit careful. Firstly, through your doctor initially get as much help and advice as you can, second opinions make good sense as well, it's not the end of things, it's moreso the way our lives twist and turn, there's a whole load of meds out there for kerb ing if not stopping RA, a diet plan that not only helps but with a good feel good factor thrown in as well, arthritis does limit us in ways but our minds are resourceful, I'm not glad I have arthritis but I feel I'm mentally a stronger person because of it. Stress always rears it ugly head, "what shape will my life take in the future", well the futures right now, sure, plan ahead, but live for today as well, life's so short anyway. There's plenty of folk on here to chat to, I mean I'm ten years down the road with osteoarthritis, it's in most of my major joints, good days, bad days, but the good are really good, I make sure of that, and the bad, well, I really try to listen to my body, I mean just because I can't run anymore doesn't mean I've got to try and force myself to do so, but at the opposite end I won't sit around engrossed in my own self pity, " why me," and all that stuff, I still stay active, so much of this has become a challenge. Initially it's a shock, I had that with arthritis, with loud tinnitus, with reoccurring attacks of trigeminal nueralgia, even with roseacre, ocular roseacre, I ended feeling when all this going to end, looking out of the window on a wet and rainy day, well things do improve, and you grab them when they do, and you stay strong, and you tire, then you fight back and stay strong again. You become a lot more consciously aware of yourself, work within your own limitations, you'll find them, you'll probably find a new "me". Self pity and why me will always creep in wherever they can, don't give up and don't give in, all the best, barry

hi Susan , there loads of us on here with RA & some having had it 20 years or so , are you positive for Rheumatiod Factor & how long have you been having problems as for RA , things have changed & the treatment is alot better than 20 years ago when I first started , some people are ok with anti-inflammatory drugs & others will be fast tracked onto Disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) like Methotrexate & there is new drugs called biologics which some people can get if they dont respond to DMARDs its about protecting your joints so they dont get damaged , Arthritis Care also has a forum & free helpline along with National Rheumatiod Arthritis Society & Arthritis Research UK is also a good charity for information & can be found in the link section above

Wow, Barry said some good stuff, love him. I was told I had this disease three years ago. That was it, my life was fucked, over, ended. I will probably get bashed for the advice I will give you, but sod it ,here goes.... Do research online, find forums that are within your age group, and look up Lyme disease. If I hadn't questioned my diagnosis of RA (I believe is not auto immune) I would not be well now.
