Hi Mel, haven't had one in the hip but my left shoulder/ac joint I've had rather a lot, my right knee, left Achilles, both elbows for tennis and golfers elbow, all cortisone, my right big toe hyluronic acid for arthritis, that last one was especially painful because the joint was so tight, but generally they aneusthetise the area first, depends on where the injection is depends on how many injections you can go back for, it's no cure, if they hit the right spot you may get several months of reduced pain, or even pain free, let the area settle for a while afterwards because initially it's another injury, but hopefully you'll get some relief, if I was having it done because of any amount of pain there I'd go for it.

hi Mel I had this done , I had a attack of Rheumatoid Arthritis in my left hip & could not move & sent into hospital they gave me a steriod injection + a anesthetic into the hips & drained to see if there was any infection in the joint , did not last long & was not put out for it but my hip was very painful so realy cant tell you to much about what would happen afterwards they open up & washed out the joint twice and was under general anesthetic for this opperations , I also have bursitis in the hip & that cant cause problems as well I have had loads of joints injected & never had any problems with it apart from that hip but was realy painful before & what they helped settle the joint down

Hi Mel, I've had many injection for RA into the joints (knees and shoulders) and they usually help a good bit with pain. Sometimes they remove fluid as well and it can be a bit sore but only for a minute or so. I haven't had one in the hip but would certainly be happy to have one there if I needed it. Hope it works well. x
