Subject: trouble at work

I am a TA in a primary school. We have just found out our hours for next year.
I have ostoarthritsis and psorasis athritis.
The school have cut my hours by a day, saying I have had too much time off. I am on methotraxate and find it difficult to recover if I have an illness. I try to always make my hospital and doctors appointments on my day off. I was working 24 hours and been dropped to 19 hours
I also work lunches times which I asked to do 1/2 lunches like everyone else but they have given me full lunch duties, which I told them I cannot do as I find it very difficuly. I have no trouble in the class.
When asked they told me there was not enough hours for everyone but no one else has dropped hours unless they asked for it.
Is this didcrimanation?

Are you a member of the union? They would be best placed to help you. I think they have to make reasonable adjustments to accommodate your disability. You could have a look on Gov website.

I understand exactly how you feel, working as a TA in primary myself!! It's so frustrating, no one understands the difficulties we face. It's very hit and miss where I am, everyone's so busy just trying to get their own jobs done.
As for your hours being cut I'd definitely get in touch with your Union, if you're a member! You should also check your contract! X

I have just emailed my union. I will defiently check out my contract. I have been there for nearly 10 years. I have an Occupational health telephone meeting on Wednesday.
It is very stressful, I got not much sleep last night worrying about it.
My class teacher is very supportive and I told him what was happening and he told me to contact the union

Good! Let us know how you get on. I was off for 4 months after my diagnosis and a union rep attended meetings with me, it was good to have the support! X

The occuppational health team were very supportive and helpful. I felt a lot better after talking to her. She told me I was covered by Disability Act.
and went through what was going to be sent to my head teacher in the report, i will get copy to.

I also have emailed my union and they left a message for me on the answerphone and said they will contact me to discuss the situation as soon as possible
