Subject: Methotrexate allergy
My Nurse thinks I may have a mtx allergy. Started on it in Jan 10mg no problems until increased to 15mg in April. Then my tongue felt like it was burning and next dose my throat did. Decreased the dose back to 10mg two doses ok but last dose problems again. It has not been really effective because I cannot get up to a maintenance dose. Also take sulphasalazine Hydroxy Naproxen which have all been upped. Had a steroid injection last week, but now got to stop mtx until next appointment in 3 week. Has anyone else had this side effect ?

think the advice they given you is right , normal problems with Mtx is mouth ulcers & that can be controled with folic acid but what you discribed is not normal & stopping the drug will tell you if its thats the problem

Thank you for your reply. It usually lasts about 4 days then starts again within two hours of taking the next dose on a thursday. But it did not start until I had been on it for about 6 weeks. Thanks again

I had problems with sulphasalazine, sore throats, rashes on my arms, once taken off it things got better. Plus I just noticed you take Naproxen, that also used to make my throat burn, g.p. said it was causing acid reflux which can burn throat. I stopped the naproxen and now only take ibuprofen when needed. It seems never ending with all the side effects from the stuff we take. But hope you feel better after your injection.

Thank you for your reply. It is frustrating, thought things would have settled now. Injection has made me realise how stiff I was which is a good feeling now to move better. Just need the swelling to go down in my fingers. Fat fingers crossed.
