Subject: osteoarthritis

Can anyone give me any help I have osteoarthritis in both feet.My consultant said that I need fusion surgery but NHS have refused funding saying they do not think it is nessasery.I am in a great deal of pain 24/7.I am taking pain relief and have morephine patches but I am getting more depressed by the day.So if anyone has any ideas I would be most grateful

I think you can appeal against the decision. You need to go to the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) website for your area and you should find the info there. If not, you can go to the PALS office of the hospital and ask them how to go about an appeal. They should be able to give you the details of the CCG and how to contact them. Best of luck.

Many thanx.My consultant is appealing on my behalf but that was back in Feb.The only thing I can see happening at the moment is I will have to start using a wheelchair because walking is unbearable

Oh dear, Karen. That does sound awful. If your consultant fails to get funding, could you go to your MP and ask them to intervene on your behalf? They can sometimes help with that kind of thing. In the meantime, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
