Subject: Neck arthritis

About the year 2000 the pulsating pain started in my right temple area, being a truck driver with the concentration involved it just amplified the problem. The doctor told me there was nothing in that area to cause such a problem, later the pains unit spent 8 years wasting my time, diet, stress, my employment, nothing was discussed apart from myofacial pain syndrome, I was eventually diagnosed with a nerve interacting with a blood vessel. In 2010 I visited an idiot calling himself a chiropractor, he conducted what he called nerve testing, hitting the side of my neck and head, in fact he triggered a 5 month attack of trigeminal nueralgia that I still have reoccurent attacks of.Another chiropractor showed me the arthritis at the base of my skull, beneath the atlas, and the base of the cervicle spine, the fragility of which really frightens me, over the years the pain in my temple area has worsened, and turning my head right now increases it, it's obvious it's coming from my neck, I massage my neck regularly, but because I'm also aware that I probably have spondylosis in my lower back that affects my hips with pain arthritis etc, and my knees and feet similarly, I am constantly concerned that the neck problem is a product of the lower back problem. I experience pain especially round the back of my lower ribs and across my chest, I also have impingement pains in both shoulders, not too mention, golfers and tennis elbows in bothe elbows, plus bursitis, plus arthritis in both wrists, this thing is massive in me. I've discussed with Sean most of the diet concept, maybe an auto immune problem, I simply don't know who to turn to for an overall correct analysis, doctors are quite simply stupid and ignorant beyond belief, privately chiropractors I consider dangerous people,no ones touching my neck now, or my lower back, I need someone to study the 'whole picture', not just one 'bit' at a time. In the same temple area as I have the pain I also have viciously loud tinnitus. I've a few short summer months to sort out how to deal with this, last winter was nearly my last, I won't handle the next one. The doctors even sent me to the mental health clinic claiming most of this phsychosomatic, the department of works and pensions tried to stop my basic claim for incopacity, all these people blind and ignorant to my plight, I'm struggling now, every day my feet hurt, have to keep changing insoles, shoes, burning pains in my legs, seem to be under attack from everywhere, dealing with a 5 month old sinus infection as well, not to mention constant stomache issues, it's endless, only sleep is the true godsend

Hi Barry, I went to a chiropractor years ago before I know it was RA causing my problems and she left me in agony. I was later told by a professor of rheumatology you should never have manipulation when you have any inflammation so I wouldn't go near one nowadays.

I think the pain in your temple could be coming from your shoulder or neck, again I remember going to the GP thinking I had earache and he touched my shoulder and discovered that was where the pain was coming from. I have also had teeth removed thinking I had toothache when in fact the pain was coming from my shoulders.

I am having quite a bit of pain just now in my shoulders and I have also pulled a muscle in my back and I am using a massager on it and that and paracetamol brings a little relief. It's also important that you have the right pillow as that can cause neck problems.

Have you been to an ear. nose and throat specialist about your tittinus? my daughter was getting treated for ear infections and eventually she asked to see a specialist and they discovered it was wax in her ear causing her problem. It sounds like you need to see various specialists as a doctor has only some knowledge of each problem.

I know if must be very frustrating for you and it is unfair when ill people don't get what they deserve and need. My husband has had to give up work, he has worked all his life and he now gets £73.00 a week, that doesn't go far when you have bills, etc to pay. I really hope you get some decent help soon. Good luck.

Hi Lucy, that amount you're get is about what I'm getting, well now I've managed to fight 'that' back, you're certainly right about pillows, I only use one, texture so important, I tend to lay on one, rollover onto two, but they're not bulky, hard, etc, and they're not memory ones either. The pain in the side of my head I feel is coming from both my shoulders and my neck, even in this weather I still use a thermal scarf, I ride a bicycle, not a lot, but the position on that causes neck and temple pain, but not at the time, get it driving, stressful positions, overcrowded , potholed roads, walking helps, far better posture, but knee and feet probs interfere. I go to ENT 2morrow for sinus probs, tinnitus , they can't help me, that's been 8 years now, I've four friends who have all contracted tinnitus from having ear syringing, and two from having micro suction in the ears, you have to be careful who does it. I use a foam roller to ease my upper back, just roll on it, always upsetting some thing there, so tight, barry

Lucy, the pain you get in your shoulders, is it top of the arm, just below the bone, is it in both shoulders, I mean I believe I have ankilosing spondylosis, that can cause shoulder pain, I've had it three years, wakes me up in the night, hurts heaps, hurts now, no real understanding of its cause, especially as it's both shoulders, in the tendons, not the bone joint itself. Tomorrow I would be so happy if I could get help with this sinus infection, had it 5 months now, get so much fatigue, can't work on the arthritis till I get rid of that, just feel to rough, barry

I find it difficult to lift my arms up as they are very stiff and the pain is mainly on the joints at the top of the arms and also across the shoulder blades, so really all over. I also find the tendons get very painful. I think the fatigue goes along with it Barry, at times I feel a bit fluey.

In that area Lucy that's exactly how I feel, most of the probs I have in other joints I can see reasons for, but in my shoulders, and both of them with a similar complaint, I have little or no understanding at all, maybe it's part of this spondylosis, if that's what I have, maybe fibromyalgia, I've certainly fibrous tissue in my back, I sometimes find the offending muscle group in my back , lay against a hard wall, then roll a golf ball up and down on it between the wall and my back, it squeezes the toxins out of the muscle the pain goes away, unfortunately a while later it reinflates, the pain returns, but gives some relief,, been doing that for years, but good posture plays a much bigger part., if also arch my back on one of those semi circular frames with all the rollers on, lay on the floor with that under me, but if I lay there more than 10 minutes, I cantmove, so I need a bar or something, above me, to pull myself off it. It is difficult, so necessary to keep mobile, massage really helps, neck and shoulders, use a combination of voltarol and dog oil at present, but wrist arthritis limits that. I need a magic pill, or the correct diagnosis for the overall problem, won't get either, just need guys like yourself to make comparison to work this out, and I will, thanks for replying, always interested, barry

Hi Barry, think I have the same issues as you. Worst for me is the wrist osteoarthritis, both wrists. But pain in neck, shoulders fingers and back as well. Did you find someone to do an overall analysis?? I'm a roofer, but will have to stop if can't get some proper relief and doctors only concentrate on one area at time. Hope you've found some miracle cure, cheers Stephen.

Hi Steve, to be honest if I waited for someone to diagnose me overall I'd probably die of old age first, like you say they are one bit at a time, a waste of time, I've looked into diet, life style, the works, it's one day at a time, your work can't help, have you had blood tests done, x rays I find not really useful, keeping body warmth, drinking plenty of water, hydrate, learning limitations with my body, good posture at all times, and. Then the medication, barry
