I sometimes get bursae on my hip but it's more on the outside rather than back. As Lois says, it might be worth getting it looked at.

Thank you all for your replies. I had bursitis on my right hip before it was replaced and don't have a problem with that now. After my last op i was left with the operated side 1" longer. My surgeon has said that in a few years the left hip would need replacing. Although i wear a wedge inside my shoe on the left side, i don't wear shoes indoors so probably part of my problem is i'm a bit lop sided. Surgeon has said he will be able to adjust leg discrepency when he replaces my left hip. Think i will have to try and see him sooner than my next appt. which should be in a years time.

Hi Chrissie, I had what was called a bipolar hemioplasty operation (half hip replacement) 9 weeks ago and I felt like i was sitting on something hard, a bit like a tennis ball. I think i have a difference in leg length too. If i go without my stick i am lopsided. Did you get much pain in your thigh after the op?. It's only this week i have had this.

Hi Lucy.Yes did get some pain in my thigh at first, but i haven't now. Mind you its 22 months since my operation. If you have got a length discrepency your surgeon will probably refer you to orthotics department. But you are early days yet, and if you were not walking or standing properly because of pain before your operation, it does take a bit of time for everything to settle down again But if it doesn't, they may offer you a raised shoe.Wishing you well with your recovery.

Thanks Chrissie, I had a fall while we were on holiday in Dubai and didn't know much about the type of op before they did it. The consultant here did xrays and said it looks as though there could be a difference in leg length. He also said they would probably have did a full hip replacement had it happened here. I was walking better last week than I am now.

Are you feeling any better now or do you still feel like you are sitting on something? could it be muscle strain?
