Subject: Foot Pain

Hi I have RA and am on 17.5mg of MTX (been on it 5 years) and 400mg Plaquenil - have persistent throbbing feet and they are just getting worse. Asked for earlier Rheumy appointment, they said I have no inflammation and its more mechanical (joints dropping etc). I asked to change medication, they said it wouldn't matter at all and just gave me painkillers (Arcoxia). Also going to get new insoles (orthotics). So basically I just have to live with it. Anyone had this really bad foot pain with the joints dropping and would different meds help do you think?
Cheers

Hello Rach I too have pain in feet, not so much throbbing but it feels like all the bones are crunching together. I have found that the best shoes for me are FitFlops. They are wide fitting and support the instep. I like them as they don't look like orthortic shoes, but they are stupidly expensive. Some one once told me the best thing for foot pain was walking in the sea, next best thing is a foot spa !

hi Rach ,

the insoles should help , there is so many joints in your feet/ankles that can play up

get good footwear that supports your feet , the joints can get a lot worse & there can be complications that go with it
but youu
as for changing meds , there is not much they can do , change your anti inflamatory , increase MTX or add another DMARD like sulpha or a biologic but you need to qualify to get it (DAS28)

I have had 20 years of it & fusions on some joints & need both main ankle joints fused . you can end up with edema & cellulitis & leg ulcers so look after your joints , get good footwear , TENS M/C can help with pain as can gels from your GP like voltoral gel ,

hi marlene , realy cant help much , I have very flat feet & use soft gel insoles + having to wear size 14 shoes because of the problems with my feet/ankles & legs & wearing compression socks

the boss uses 3/4 Orthotic Insoles & would try something like that

Thanks Colin, I have tried a few out there maybe I will have a try of both. The gel ones sounds interesting.

I love your comment the Boss haha I tell everyone I am the boss and they agree otherwise no dinner.

You could get a referral to a podiatrist, Lois. They will make insoles to fit.

I have talked to my GP about this and I am getting fed up with being brushed off. I will have a go at Colin suggestions and of course the Boss LOL.

I know if I ask I get more sense on here.
